people - a single person a group of people
pupils - a group of followers of a saint / priest

People are a number of men and women. Pupil are students that a teacher has & It is not pupils but it is pupil..

people = persons composing a community, tribe, race, nation, etc; group of persons (in short)
pupil = a person who is taught by another, esp. a student in relation to a teacher; learner, schoolchild,schoolgirl, schoolboy; apprentice
*pupils is the plural form of pupil
