What some may consider a "handout", many consider a more noble use of our tax dollars than destroying and then rebuilding a sovereign nation.
I, personally, would prefer neither. Insurance is a personal responsibility, not a federal one.

You are already paying much in taxes for Medicaid which is health care for people who can't pay the medical bills and their income is below a certain level. I seriously doubt that universal health care will be free. The larger the group, the cheaper the insurance is. If it is done properly, it shouldn't be a huge expense. I doubt that you get free insurance now. I pay for part of mine at work while the employer pays part of it as well. The money paid for insurance from healthy people pays for the procedures for others who are sick.
Insurance companies are keeping medical fees down by refusing to pay more than a set limit for many procedures. This should not be stopped. If the government is going to actually run the whole thing, I am against it as well. I believe the government should set some standards and somehow allow for people who are unemployed to retain some kind of health insurance while they are in dire straights. This would not be socialized medicine to the degree you are thinking.
Many hard working people lose everything they have due to serious illness. This would actually help the economy in behind the scenes ways. Many people have to file bankruptcy because of medical bills and often lose their homes. I guess you think that is just tough but it effects our economy over all more than you realize and still costs all of us in the long run.

What your saying is just not true why lie. Do you really believe only republicans work? If so why do I own my own business and have done so for 22 yrs. But its not only Liberals who want something done about healthcare it should be everyone. I give my employees insurance it is part of their work package. But the Insurance companies are making it harder and harder for employers to afford to do this. In America you need insurance or you have very poor healthcare. Every thing in your tiny world is black or white well in my its multicolored and I as a Citizen fill the need to want America to be one of the best country on earth that care about their fellow man. Where is your Christany?

Most Americans want universal health care. The fact that tens of millions of Americans have no health insurance is shocking. The western European countries, as well as Japan, Australia and other industrialized countries provide health care for their people. I don’t see why we can’t do as well or better for all Americans.
