I tried running HijackThis, but it said I dont have write access to my hosts file. Someone please help me on what to do...

I have Panda Antivirus and WinPatrol along with UniBlue's Spycatcher. It doesnt matter to me if HijackThis is working, I just want to be completeley sure that there is no keylogger on my PC. It would also probably be a commercial keylogger, put on by a friend (haha). But I could be wrong, please help.

If you think you have a keylogger, download and run these two free programs. Especially Superantispyware as it will detect what all other miss. Download there free version and you will get automatic updates daily.

Or you can download from Austria, A2Malware there free version. http://www.emsisoft.com

Either program will detect and destroy the keylogger if you actully have one on your pc.

If your Panda, SpyCatcher and WinPatrol are fully working and up-to-date and active, and they still don't catch anything, then you have got no keylogger (unless you have got friends who can create powerful, undetectable keyloggers!! ;-) ). There are anti-keyloggers specifically for the purpose, but I find them quite a nuisance. Still, here's one you can download and try if you are not satisfied (it's free):

It is so powerful that it will keep alerting you even when your normal computer software, like anti-virus and all, take your monitor's screenshot (which is perfectly normal) and all that.

Open Task manager and sheck for the process and end it or type msconfig and disable it from startup. But if a keylogger is put on its not considered spyware if an admin installed it

I will recommend Yahoo anti-spy. Install it in your computer and scan your PC, it can remove keyloggers, malwares, spywares and trojan viruses.

Probably your friend configured it with your virus protector, reset it to default settings. Or maybe its an new homemade KeyL. , just keep updating your virus protector.

try opening your processes, go thru each one,... you can even check them by doing a search on each to see what they are,... and see if there are any unwanted processes.
You do this by clicking alt/ ctrl/ delete,.... all at once, and then choose processes
