A neighbor that lived across the street really started getting on my case when I retired about gaining weight. He ran cross country during high school and went to college on a scholarship for it. He was always skinny as a rail. One nice day two years ago he came home from his early morning run, waved at my fat "being" as he passed my house. Went inside his house, slipped on the bathroom floor and broke his neck. He has been paralyzed from the neck down since that day. He was never afraid of running or his bathroom yet they both were involved the day he was hurt. You can't live in fear of something that MIGHT hurt you. There's to much in the world that WILL hurt you!!

It's uderstandable that you wuld feel that way. Don't dwell on it when your on the horse, however, because they might pick up on your fear or uncertainty. If you love the sport and the feeling (other than the fear) that you get when riding, don't give up on the sport. By worrying, it shows how down-to-earth you are by realizing that these things can happen, instead of brushing them off and say they'll never happen to you. If you've been showing and riding for this long, now's not the time to quit!

you shouldnt give up riding if you enjoy it....but to be honest, if you've been riding as long as you say you have, you really ought to have over come your fear. If you're experienced and know how to control a horse in all situations then you shouldnt worry. You're in charge and you have to make the horse know that. Yeah you'll still get hurt from time to time, but horses sense fear and react to it.

I ride and do games. Team penning and such.

I get hurt all the time. Multiple hospital visits. Riding is a contact sport. Unlike a Harley your horse has a mind of it's own and you will sometimes get hurt.

Beer helps, but only a couple.

Wear a helmit. And spend more time with your horse. Do you spend time with your horse every day? You should.

No one should feed your horse but you! Makes for mandatory time with animal.

I stay away from sky diving because that does scare me.

A friend of mine had this problem, she loves horses but got herself wound up to the point where she could barely get on them anymore. She went to a hypnotherapist. She didn't really think it had done anything, but she hasn't had the fear since going to a few of the sessions, so i guess it must have worked!!

It's a partly irrational fear, but it's not an uncommon one either. There is help to be found for it.
