That depends entirely on the person.

I saw a show once where 3 people were sitting in a room - 2 were knitting and the third was saying get me out of here - get me out of here. The end of the story stated that the two knitters were experiencing heaven and the 3rd man was in the same place experiencing hell.

Part of life inprisonment would be what you make it.
Remember the Bird Man of Alcatraz(I can't spell)
Anyhow he wrote books on birds that many people use.

I image life in prison at it's best would be difficult but each of us decide daily what life can be.

Even locked in a cell or hospital

Death penalty. If I were stuck in prison for life, I think I could make the best of it and still have a life that's worth living.

Prison is much worse. The Death Penalty is easy. They gently put you to sleep with I.V. drugs before they give you a lethal drug - without even knowing it - to stop your heart. Living a lifetime in prison and having to deal with all that entails for the rest of your life - knowing you'll never be free again, has to be much worse.

Life in prison definitely. Sit in that cell and think about what you did. Can only be outside for an hour a day. Threats by other prisoners. If I had my way, it would be a 4 x 4 cell with a bucket in the corner. They could sleep on the floor.

Life without parole makes more sense for a number of reasons. It does give the prisoner a chance to reflect and redeem himself if he chooses and it frees the rest of society from the potential nightmare of executing an innocent person, which cannot be lessened.
