Did things happen that you didn't expect, or things you expected to happen that didn't?
Let's hear your thoughts on the last book of the famous Harry Potter series.
Me, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, because there were plenty of shocking moments. Like after the chase to the Tonks' house, when the chapter was titled "Fallen Warrior", I really thought Hagrid was dead at the beginning and I was thoroughly upset. Or when Hermione got tortured, Bellatrix decided to do it so suddenly it was a shock.
But the ending was too "fairy tale", if you know what I mean. The good guy won and got the girl, and I was convinced that Harry would sacrifice himself to defeat Voldemort (the last few chapters made it sound like that!). And neither Ron nor Hermione died! I was expecting throughout the entire book for one of them to die.
So, your thoughts

I can't believe so many of you are satisfied by this "fairy tale" ending! I mean, I didn't want Harry just killed and Voldemort was the winner. But it would have been cool and stuck in my mind more if they had some epic, climactic battle and they ending up killing themselves.
But instead, now my children will ask me "What happened in the end?" and I'll say "Oh, he won in the end." That's it.

I agree. The ending was a little too corny for me, but then there aren't many girls of Harry's age around to marry so he's pretty limited! God knows why he called the kid Albus Severus when he hated for years and years. Stuff like that wouldn't just be forgotten i don't think......

I really enjoyed it too!! I was on the edge of my sit more than once!! I also thought that Hagrid was dead at the beginning but it ended up being Mad-Eye. But Harry did sacrifice himself at the end and that's what brought him back to life....and that sacrifice, like his mother's, is what cast the protection over his friends and those fighting with him......I don't think I expected neither Ron nor Hermione to die because in the other books J.K. Rowling hinted a romantic relationship between the two and it wouldn't really make sense if she was going to kill one of them off in the end....I was really sad when Dobby and Fred died. I was not expecting that at all! Then Lupin and Tonks.........I was glad that Draco ended up on the good side.........I was surprise about what Narcissa did, lying about Harry being dead!! But I guess she realized what was more important. I was a little disappointed with the epilogue....I kind of wanted a little more. Like how everyone reacted to the death of Voldemort....she didn't even tell us what the characters (with the exception of Neville) chose as a career?!?!? I would of liked to see what George's kids would be like (one of them no doubt named Fred)!! I think that the cousin of James (Harry's oldest son) that Teddy was "snogging" was Bill and Fleur's daughter although they were not seen at the station...Victoire sounds like it would be French! I had hoped that she would have made the epilogue longer.....but this book was my favorite!! I just hope that when they make the movie they do it justice.......

The end was fairy tale but I'm glad. I loved it. The whole wand thing still has me confused! If Malfoy had the wand then it's Harry's, if it was buried with Dumbledore than it is Voldemort's. I don't get it.
I was very sad about Hedwig! And so early in the book I was totally not expecting that! And Fred dying. I still can't believe he's gone. The wins were 2 of my favs through the whole series! Why not "off" Percy? I could do without him.
I was glad for the epilogue, but wish she had put more ppl in. Like Luna. She play such a big part in the last few books. I would like to know what happens to her. Also who raised Teddy since both his parents died. Which I also was not happy about!
All in all I thought it was the best book of the series and was very happy with the end.

Loved it. I was upset that McGonnagal wasn't in the book until the last few chapters though. I had the feeling she would help Harry a bit in the begining, but it never came.
I actually had the feeling that Snape was to play the part he did, it was the one thing I was sure of from the begining, that he would play the most important part for Harry in the end. I came to that conclusion by never doubting Dumbledore's trust, and that brought me also to know in the 6th book that Dumbledore ALLOWED Snape to kill him, that it was not unexpected.
I did not expect Tonks to die though, that was the big shock for me, and the gutsy personality that Nevelle obtained, the death of Colin (the boy too young to be in the war), the alliance of Kretcher, the death of Dobby, and the fact that Ron spoke parseltongue!.....once.....hehe.
The fallen warrior.....was Hedwig. She was with Harry through everything.....you shouldn't forget her becuase she was 'only an owl'. Think of all she did for Harry!

I loved it. I'm a bit of a romantic so i tend to belive that most books should have happy endings, but if you think about it, it wasn't really a happy ending at all. they put up a terrible struggle and Harry did die (for a short period) and then he came back to life. That's really important to the story. Even then, Fred, lupin, tonks, sirius, dumbeldore and snape all died. they gave up their lives for something that meant a lot to them. the son of tonks and lupin will never see his parents. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and yes i was dreadfully sad when hermione got tortured. i was afraid for everyone of them. I was expecting sanpe to be bad through and through but he had some good in him even if it was a pathetic sort of goodness. I was expecting harry to die but im glad he didnt because the fairy tale ending meant a lot to me. i was so grateful for the goodnights sleep. lol

There were a lot of expectations that I had for this book that failed me. I expected some more "main" characters to die. It seemed like she had a lot of "semi-main" characters die rather than killing off anyone too important. I think she did a good job of pulling it all together and wrapping up loose ends. Like with the locket. I could definately remember them finding that locket in Book 5 and was amazed that she was able to connect everything so well. I too, however, thought the ending way too fairytale. After everything you saw in the 4th, 5th, and 6th books, I kind of felt like she had only written it because her fans wouldn't have liked a lot of main-character-deaths. I was impressed by most of the book, but the epilogue is something I really struggled with. It didn't fit the theme for any of the books and just seemed silly to me. I almost wish I had just stopped reading at the end of the last chapter. I was talking to someone about why on earth she wrote that epilogue, and they were saying that it seemed like JK Rowling was tying up loose ends so no one could take her characters and make their own series about it. That seems possible to me I guess, but the epilogue really annoyed me. But overall, a very good read.

I agree with you that the ending was too fairy tale. But you know, you can't kill off the protaganists!
I was shocked to learn the background behind both Dumbledore and Snape. The one person we thought was 100% was good wasn't, and the person we thought was 100% bad wasn't. I was also very upset when I thought Hagrid was dead. How about that Neville?! Didn't know he had it in him. And Molly - go Mrs. Weasley!!

i loved it, there was so much that shocked me too!!! especially the ending, because for a few chapters before voldemort killed his own horcrux, i was ready (as much as i could ever be) to have harry die for everyone else. i thought that that would have been a very brave ending even though it would have like caused an uproar (and i would have been with them).
but i thought how rowling switched it up and had harry live was so shocking and genius!! i loved that, and i did think that the ending was fairy tale, but thats how i wanted it to be. i wanted it to end like that because it seems like thats how it is supposed to be, and was very satisfying. im sooooo glad that neither ron or hermioned died, that would have been soooooooo tragic and sad!!!!! i wouldnt have been able to stop crying if one of them died.
so yea to sum it up i loved all of it=)
EDIT- to the person above, rowling could have gotten away without the epilogue, but again like i said it was satisfying to know that after everything that they have gone through, they can finally be somewhat normal and have a family which was all harry every wanted more than anything. and if she didnt write it then everyone would be like harrassing her with questions that were answered in the epilogue.
EDIT*- to meg- i was mad that she didnt tell us their careers too, and i heard that ron and harry are aurors and hermione is some big important person working at the ministry.

I enjoyed it, but, like you, I was a bit disappointed by the ending. She may as well have written "And they all lived happily ever after". She should've left out the 19 years later chapter.
