He commanded the 3rd Army in his drive into German occupied territory after the Normandy landings in 1944, but he also commanded the 7th Army in the invasion of Sicily in 1943. If he had not gotten in trouble on Sicily, he probably would have continued commanding the 7th and would have made the 7th more well known as it is now.

Patton's biggest success in battles were with the U.S. Third Army after the invasion of Normandy. He covered 600 miles in 2 weeks using Germany's Blitzkrieg tactics against them. He was forced to stop his advance after an arogant general by the name of Lee thought his comfort was more important than supplying the troops. He took 30 truck companies to move him to Paris and Patton literally ran out of gas.

In the Ardennes offensive in '44 he rescued the surrounded 101st Airborne Div. in Bastogne.

Another huge success came to him during his command of the U.S. Seventh Army. The 7th Army was used in liberating the cities of Palermo and Messina Sicily.

Finally if we would have listened to him in '45 the "Cold War" Korean War and the Vietnam War wouldn't have had to happen. Saddam would probably not have been a "friend" of the U.S. since they wouldn't have needed him to counter the actions of the Soviet Union.

The link below will show the 3rd and 7th Army sleeve insignia.

The Third Army in World War II - after the Normandy invasion. Before that he certainly had his victories, but he was such a pompous a-- that he kept getting in trouble with the brass.
The Powers That Were most certainly should have listened to him re: taking Berlin and keepin' on goin'. Maybe then we wouldn't have had a "Cold War" for 50 more years.
