Okay, I have the motorola Razr by verizon. I got it last July and it's a two year contract, new every two, so I have a a little less than a year before I can get a new phone for free. But my phone was dropped in water, the whole thing works but my screen is beyond dark. You can't see it at all unless you hold it up to the lights and you can only see the outline. How do I go about gettting a new phone on the same contract and am I going to have to pay for a whole new phone??

Water is hard. as the chip turned green.
the have a Free Unit Replacement (FRU) at VZ but you will get rejected on that as it has water damage.
I gather you do not have insurance
So, go to amazon.com and see what you can get.
Verizon will give you your phone at 22 months not 24.
Also if you really plead your case at customer service sometimes the supervisor will advance your new for two date.
I used to work there in CS and changed the date for many customers.
Hope this helps a little.

Take the phone in person to Verizon-not sure I would tell them about the dropped in water part. Tell them it doesn't work you're not sure why (act dumb).

They are obligated to attempt to repair it (they do it right there) if they can't they replace it and if you;re interested in an upgrade you can get a discounted price on an upgrade phone if they can't fix your soggy razr.

I did this with an LG still under contract and 3 months prior to phone upgrade-that's how I ended up with a razr for cheap.

Also, go to verizonwireless.com-you can log on and check the details nitty gritty of your contract and do things like check mins, store contacts to your computer, buy stuff, cahnge your plan features, etc.

Good luck!

If you didn't purchase the insurance most likely that you have to pay full price for a new phone. Your best bet is to try to get a phone from a Friend and swap the sim card. I wouldn't call then to let them know of the swap because then they extend your plan for the amount of months that you already have the plan for.

Don't know about getting a new phone, but many people buy used phones from ebay, craigslist or friends to get them through until they can get the free one. Then just call Verizon to activate replacement phone.

First read your contract with them. If you are allowed certain damages on it then you can have it repaired, if beyond repair you should be able to get a new one.
Just got mine 2 weeks ago and if there is any problem with it I can take it in and if not fixable I will get a new one. But then I got the extend warranty on it [ which always helps].
