It is human nature to seek out and judge beauty. The United States is not the only one. Afterall, look at the Miss World pageant and all the other beauty pageant obsessed countries displayed.
There are far more beauty pageants, in my opinion, in South America, than in the US. They just may not be internationally televised. India, I hear, also is starting to have many types of pageants. In fact in the US they are falling out of favor and I don't remember if it was Miss America or Miss Universe - but a year or so back they almost cancelled the televised show for lack of interest/sponsorship. Things seem to be shifting in the US as shows and contests revolving around skill or knowledge are becoming much more popular

I think most people are obsessed with beauty because we are scared to walk down the street and have people (MEN) say oh your fat, ugly etc
So every day we are trying to look as good as everyone else to I guess fit in... Be accepted
And to think we are better than someone else
I heard two young girls talking the other day at the mall and one girl said “OMG! I look like Paris Hilton”
I was thinking it’s more important to be someone not look like someone

The difference between America the rest of the world's perception of beauty is obsession with weight. Too much pressure to be thin, that it completely overshadows everything else important in their lives.

because beauty is beautiful! y not love the way u look; take pride in it; show it off (just not conceedidly) and help others be the same. even if u claim ur the ugliest person in the world, someone somewhere can make u beautiful.
also its fun to look cute and hip. its just the way of life! -ME

Nothing else to be obsessed with. Other nations show off their brains, strength of thought, reasoning ability. We have nothing of that, but looks. And we are happy with that. It is a free country. It is okay to be dumb.

beauty is fun... it keeps us peeps with no lives occupied. and to tell the truth, theres nothing more fun than getting asked out on a date, something only the beautiful people get to experience.
