I am 17 weeks pregnant and at night I suffer from extreme bloating and I also retain water. How do you alleviate these symptoms?

Drink a lot of water during the day. It actually helps you to retain water less. If your feet and ankles are swelling a lot, elevate them when you get a chance. Also, talk to your doctor to make sure you don't have something like preeclampsia or toxemia which can cause those symptoms but need attention. Good luck!

I just saw this on TV as it relates to non-pregnant women. But, the big secret, pregnant or no, is water, water, water. Drink it (with a little lemon will boost the effect and flavor). Swim in it (it's like a giant massage, and you will have to pee if you are seriously retaining water). Drink some more.

You have seen a doctor, haven't you? Bloating and retaining water can be the symptoms of some pretty nasty stuff.

If your doctor OKs it, exercise is good too. Walking is like a giant pump that pushes the water out from the cells, and into your bladder. Another exercise they had on TV was laying on your back, and wiggling your hands and feet for 30 seconds. Check with your doctor before doing this -- there's a blood vessel you can cut off if you are on your back for too long.

Good luck, and I wish you a safe delivery.
