Allot of these pop-ups could, if enabled, and running, be coming from messenger service, which is supposed to be used by, and only by the system administrator. However some have found it gives then a what they believe to be a back-door to get junk mail and messages to your computer.

If this be the case, here is how you disable and stop that service on your computer.

Go to your control panel ---> Then Administrative Tools ----> Then Services (Not Component Services) the other one called (SERVICES) it will look like two gears with a small shaft in them.

Double click on Services, the will bring up a dialog box that has all your computer services that can be turned off and on.

Scroll down to (MESSENGER) on the word Messenger double click again and you get get yet another dialog box.

You should be on the general tab on that dialog box and that's the tab you want.

Now look down to the middle where it say's (Startup type) use the arrow to the right and you'll see that there are three options,
1. Automatic
2. Manual
3. Disable

Select disable. Now your half way home and there is only one more thing to do.

Look down until you see (Service status) and to the right of that it will give you the current statis. However just click on the (Stop Button) it will take a few seconds to stop.

Lastly click on apply then click on ok to save the changes.

That should take care of any messages and pop-up that are getting into your system using that service.

If your still getting the pop-ups after that then open your browser and delete your Cookies and then delete you temporary internet files and be sure to delete all offline content.

This is done by opening your browser and selecting (Tools) then (Internet Options)

That should stop all pop-ups.

And if that didn't stop them then you probably have a vb-rabbit file on your hard drive. so go to McAfee.Com and at the main search type in the following.

Stinger

Download the current stinger program (it's free) and it just an exe file. Once you have that file on your hadr-drive then just double click on it to get rid of any trojans or rabbits that are on the system.

Yet again if the stinger doesn't work then you probably looking at more than a script virus, so go to either McAfee or Norton or (Avast.Com "Recommended") and get there virus scanner software and run it.

I strongly recommend Avast Home Edition it free and it updates about everyday, you can use it for a year as they will provide you with a license, and when that expires, just login to Avast and they will give you another license for free that is good for another year.

Lastly. there are some hackers out there, how-be-it they are few a far between. Most are just script kiddies, or wanna be hackers. But the good ones can write a virus that will nest in the (BEER Record) or what is know as the (BOOT EXTENTION ENGINEERING RECORD) so.. if you have done everything that I have told you to do and your still getting these pop-ups then I would consider changing releasing your IP address and renew it if your on a dynamic IP Address.

You do that by going to the command prompt and typing this...
ipconfig /release
then give it a second...
then type
ipconfig /renew

Now if all of that fails and your still getting those pop-ups then I have to say I dunno...

However this should do the trick.

Hope this helps

Download the latest version of Firefox. Set the preferences to block all ads and to delete all personal info, including cookies when you quit. Stop using IE!

Use search for "dialer" and delete any you find.
Change your folder options to"Show All Files"
Then purge the following:
C:\Windows\Prefetch
C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname's Documents\Local Settings\Temp
Then Internet Explorer Options:
Delete
Delete Temporary Internet Files
Delete Cookies
Then Make your IE history...HISTORY!
Reboot.
Done deal.

You should download Mozilla Firefox and if you already have, then download the "No Script" extension. You may have to go through the hassle of approving your favorite websites when you visit them for the first time after downloading it, but it makes life a lot easier.

Pop-ups are ads. If you are getting porn popups, then you are visiting porn sites, or sites connected to them. Nothing will completely stop popup ads, but between Internet Explorer's popup blocker and Google's, 95% or more will be stopped.
