What a misery you are! What if you get mates (who'd be a mate to a miser!) or family round and they need to use your connection?

Start by buying the weakest wireless router you can find, and that will be the cheapest thing in the store. SInce you will be the only user, it wouldnt be smart to buy one where the coverage goes around upstairs, outside in the yard etc.
For that matter, buy yourself a portable high speed internet instead of wireless. so you can plug the modem into ANY electrical connection anywhere and viola- instant internet.
When you set up the internet, you will be asked to create a password lock for the modem. Create one that is not easy to figure out, and dont tell anybody else your password.
I was told however, that a good hacker can still hack any wireless connection but I have no idea if it happens in real life. There must be millions of wireless sites by regular ordinary people.....

prompt connections are inherently insecure by utilising layout. any guy or woman with the staggering courses (that are loose and incredibly placed with Google) can view any site visitors going over a prompt connection if the relationship isn't encrypted. EDIT: to those that say that i'm giving too lots records away, and starting to be new hackers I say: i'm no longer attempting to arm the criminals, they are already armed. i'm attempting to arm the hassle-loose inhabitants to safeguard their very own networks. {{in step with quite a few posts of this nature in the previous}} apart from, any experienced guy or woman can destroy maximum (if no longer all) prompt encryption protocols with slightly attempt and as a result view the site visitors travelling by using that distinctive AP. EDIT: It does not even take ability. in basic terms some caffeine and the ability to struggle by using semi-technical tutorials written by utilising over-caffeinated computing device technology scholars. in case you elect for secure practices, transmitting records by using skinny air isn't an exceedingly stable plan. each and every of the encryption in the worldwide won't end a committed hacker, somewhat if he can avert actual disagreement by utilising leaving a working laptop or computing device someplace to do his listening for him. EDIT: reckoning on the lack of understanding of alternative persons for the secure practices of a community asset is termed "secure practices by using Obscurity" and became very hassle-loose in the process the start of the internet. when you consider that then, we've found out that human interest a great way outweighs the small attempt it takes to overview the basics of a community's function. If it desires to be guard, you will possibly desire to take energetic measures to manually guard it -- no longer wish that "maximum" human beings won't understand. wish this enlightens... -Allen

it will already be locked because when you make a wireless connection you need to enter your wep incription code which can be found on the back of your router so unless people know this they can't connect to your connection

best way is to type in: 192.168.1.1
username: (leave this blank)
password: admin
this is normally the case anyway. then go to MAC filtering and type in your MAC address as the only address allowed. and also include at least a 128 bit WEP security. and you'll be pretty well taken care of.
