My friend and I made plans last weekend that we would get together this past Saturday for a meal. I made Chop Suey. I went to expense for ingrdients I don't usually keep in the house, and put the work into preparing it, and it turned out very good. My friend came over and was on her cellphone. (she's 20) (her & her "bf" were working on getting back together) which is fine with me. However she kept taking his calls on her cellphone the whole time she was here, and a few times going into another room and even closing herself inthe bathroom twice to talk with him on the cell. I finally got offended. I had gone to expense to cook and here she was leaving the food get cold in her plate to go talk on her cell in bathroom with him. I told her that she was being RUDE She called me CRAZY. I told her to leave. What do you think, I felt like slapping her but didn't. Shes very self absorbed I think.

The only mistake you made was not slapping her. :)

well, i would say her BF isn't the right person for her... He is her obsession. Obsessions don't last long. Usually the guy moves on to someone else... If I were you I would probably have said the same thing. It's pretty rude if you invite someone and they don't even show the slightest bit of interest. She should have said that she was busy at the moment and apologize to him. Its just not right. You spent a lot of time to cook... Cooking isn't pretty easy. You spent that time cooking something special and you could have been doing something better. Maybe saying that she was being rude was a bad idea... you probably should have told her something like, "I think it's really nice that you and him want to get back together, but the food is getting cold... I invited you to spent time with you, not so you could call your BF." Maybe if you explained it nicely she might have told him she was busy or something. But who knows, there are people that just don't care about anyone or what anyone says, thinks, or feels. You're right, she may be self-absorbed.

that is quite rude, though i personally would have waited till she got off the phone and told her so in a more polite manner. I wouldn't call her out right rude..i'd possible tell her " I know you are going through a rough patch with your boyfriend or ex, but tonight, i would like to spend time with you . I went through the trouble of making this and i think it would be good if we could enjoy it together"...or a different approach similar to that. I think she may have responded angrily due to the heat of the argument with her ex or whatever and having you come at her may have made her call you "crazy". I don't think you had to go to the extremes of telling her to get out. As angry as you were, or as rude as she was being. I mean you both were in the wrong. She should have known better than that and you should have approached the matter differently. :) i hope you guys patch things up and she learns from her mistakes!

I'd only cut her a little slack because she's 20. I didn't have any perception of how rude I was in those situations until I was about 25 then it all started sinking in. Some people (like me unfortunately) are just slower than others.

I think that was in a way a little rude of her. I probably wouldn't have gotten that angry about it... have you ever tried being supportive?

Oh and by the way!

Maybe you should actually read someone's entire question, before you jump to some ignorant conclusion.

you hit it right on the head, she was definitely being rude. Sure take one short call from him but to spend the evening with her phone glued to her ear would make me want to dump the chop suey over her head.

She was very rude...you went through a lot of money time and trouble for her and basically she blew you off. You were with in your rights to say she was rude and ask her to leave.

That was rude, she sounds like a little b'tch. I hate the cell phone craze, why is it more important to talk on a phone than in person?

I think you did the right thing by telling her to leave. Maybe this will make her see how rude she really was.

You are right, she was being rude, but if she is your best friend, and she was in the middle of a crisis, you could maybe understand why.....
I'm not defending her, but I don't know you, or her.... I know if my best friend had done that, I would "just know" that there was a good reason for it, and I would blow it off. She's still gonna be my best friend, and I would not tell her to leave.
I don't know your friend, so maybe it's different for you two.... use your best judgement. Don't let a good friendship go bad over a guy, and a couple of phone calls!

No wonder you were offended. Your friend WAS rude.
I'm sorry you had to go to all that trouble only t find out what a self-centered, ignorant, ill mannered piece of work she is. Sheesh. I would've been FUMING!
