I have a terrible toothache. Can't make it to the Dentist til Friday. How do I survive the work week?

Pain is caused from infection. Start brushing your teeth with baking soda and peroxide to get a jump start on cleaning out the infection.

Then lots and lots of ibuprophen (Advil).

From experience ( I just broke a tooth a couple months ago) do NOT use orajel! When it wears off the pain comes back more intense. I will NEVER use that crap on my baby girl again!

And clove oil really does help, much better than orajel!

I was in this situation a few years ago around Christmas time when all the dentist offices closed. I would suggest getting some strong OTC pain reliever such as Tylenol quick release gels. Also very helpful will be the numbing agent you can get OTC that usually comes with a Q-tip like applicator. You just put a little bit of the gel where it hurts and it will help.

Good luck. I definitely feel your pain.

Will your dentist make an emergency appointment for you? Some do, or possibly he might call your pharmacy to prescribe an analgesic to get you through the week if he doesn't do emergency appointments. I feel bad for you, I have had that "roll on the floor" pain before.

Enjoy your day or at least try!

This may be a little unpleasant, but try to keep the base of the tooth clean, especially after meals, take your tooth brush to work with you, and use a gargle (not toothpaste)to brush around the tooth at intervals. Hope it helps.

Can you not explain to work and get some time off to go? If you're in pain you're not going to perform your best, so your employer will also benefit from you going sooner rather than later!

There are also dental hospitals you can go to, if the problem is because of an appointment.

Go to the pharmacy at the supermarket and get toothache medicine.

that sucks....try some Tylenol and rest...nothing will take the pain away completely..I had a toothache so bad that I felt like riping it out myself..also try some Orajel...it will numb it but only temporarily

A lot of good ideas here, but one thing that will help out a lot is .....do not bend over ! When you bend over, the blood rushes to your head, making the tooth throb much worse !
Also, if you happen to have any left over antibiotics, take them.

dab some really strong alcohol around the tooth and gum area. drinkable alcohol, not like methylated spirits
