Local people have no part in National projects and the bridge and Levees are national projects.
60 years of attacking government for waste, even as they appoint cronies to perpetuate the waste, and not do their actual job, all the while kicking back money to the Gang Of Pirates who have made their brand one of attacking all spending as waste and calling for less Government.
Well you keep electing people who don't believe that government is good for anything but channeling waste to their cronies, as opposed to others who might actually do the job, and this bridge and Katrina are what you can expect a lot more of.
The really scary thing is that this bridge was by no means the worst on the list, just at a critical point.
A few more years of GOP rule and we can expect a lot more of that sort of thing.

Everyone in Louisiana got the blame for the aftermath of the Hurricane. Don't forget, it was bad design and construction that caused the levees to fail.
No one knows why the bridge collapsed. Wait until the cause is identified before blaming anyone. It could have been a hidden defect.

I think you are saying that the people on the scene, the mayor of the city or the Governor of the state should be blamed for what happens in their city or their state. I think you are right. In the case of New Orleans Mayor Naygen did not use the plan he had created and this lead to many deaths that if he had just used his plan could have been avoided. In Minnesota the Governor was first warned about the bridge in 1990. I do not know who the Governor was in 1990 but he is the one who should have followed up on the bridge report. The fact that no one followed up on that report in the next 17 years is what is really sad. To blame the current President for both of these is senseless and is only done to show partisanship. It takes away from the responsibility that people on the scene have.

In the case of the levees, local politicians can take the blame for diverting nationally allocated funds earmarked for levee repair to other projects. You can however, blame your State representatives for your atrocious spelling and grammar. Are the public schools really failing that badly?

This is no time for blame, no matter what political party you've hooked up with. Point the finger at the high cost of commercial construction if you don't like the way our infrastructure is falling apart right under our feet!
