Say "yeah... okay, dude. You're right. Thanks. I'll try and be less of a nerd for ya next time. You want me to wear a dress and be your girlfriend, too? I mean, you care so much about how I look and act, right? Go ask your mom to buy you some toys." That might roast his onion.

The name nerd is never used in the real world and should not bother anyone. If your friend can realize that name calling in school is as important to life as a hole in the head then he would be better off. If I was called a nerd now, I would take that as a compliment. The true difference between being a nerd or not being one is a 6 figure paycheck.
Watch out for "dork" though, that one has survived the test of time.

I would say"Thank you"
If you forgive your enemies or make them feel inferior ,this makes them scratch their head in frustration. I got this from a quote I once read....
"Always forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them more"
I have suggested something like this as doing something bad just makes you as bad as them and you don't need to lower yourself to their level.
Just walk away smiling. There is nothing wrong with being a 'nerd' It just shows that this other person knows you are smarter than they are and they are jealous. Keep strong and don't let comments get to you or should I say don't let the 'bully' see that it has annoyed/hurt you. If you do, then they know they have won and will keep doing it. If you show them that you don't care, they will soon tire of it because they are no longer getting a reaction out of you.
Hope this helps and seriously think about my response as you may regret it if you do something that you can't take back.
Good luck and have a great day/night!!!
x K

Seriously, I'd suggest that your friend come back by pointing out how strange it is that someone should ridicule him for having ability. Also he needs to understand that if someone calls him a nerd that it's essentially two things: first it's a compliment, and second, it shows mediocrity on the part of the insulter (if you're pointing out that I'm smart, doesn't that mean you're dumb?) Plus the actual thing said doesn't mean as much as the way it's said.

The best way to get this to stop is to agree, People that do this are getting off by the negative reaction,,,It is like giving them control over your friend...
When it happens again, Tell him to say yea I sure am a nerd, and laugh, each and every time regardless, this takes the attacke r off guard, does not give them what they are looking for and they tend to back off.
It is very difficult growing up but learning how to counter these negatives will make him a much bigger person than the attacker.

From what it sounds like, this isn't a friend, it's you.
Actually it's pretty obvious.
The best insult you can give is to be the only mature one in the situation, meaning move on and show how much you don't care...or at least make them think you don't, and eventually you really won't. Life's too short to be wasted on things like this.
Ignore them, focus on important things, and if you're smart enough about life and don't let things like simple WORDS distract you, they'll work for you someday, and you'll get last laugh.

Its a very mild insult and doesnt deserve a vicious response.
Just call the guy a twerp or peckerhead or something.
I often call friends and workmates nerds or anoraks and they dont even take offence, just laugh and call me something silly, so chill out.

Llama Breath, Doofus, Pea Brain, Half-wit, all of these have negative connotations and are a little humorous.... you don't have to attack someone down to their very core to get your point across. Witty come-backs will often win you friends in the long run.

He should not as this will only make him out to be like them and does he want that.
But if he is going to do it anyway then try the C word it always provokes strong feelings
