imagination can take different forms. fantasy is a pleasing one: who doesn't dream about having abilities or possessions they don't already have? hollywood and authors have done THEIR part by giving us a rich tapestry of role models to choose from when we choose to fantasize. and the world AROUND us fills in the rest, introducing us to people, places, and ideas to think about when there's time
but to believe in and dream of ways to better yourself or this world: is that really fantasy? it takes imagination to create ways to improve the justice system, help clean and maintain our environment, (both the natural and man made versions) put men on the moon, and it even takes imagination to have fun with and change a simple song (improvisation in jazz). fantasies? they become reality!
sure these things were once thought about by someone, perhaps in a daydream. but while fantasy STAYS in the fantasy world, imagination helps bridge the gap and turn these dreams into a wonderful reality to be shared with others.

A good question! It doesn't have to, you could be imaginative without the former. However, fantasy or not a person has inherit the capabiltiy of being imaginative. You imagine things in mind, you create a mental figure out of your imagination. Fantasies are just part of imagination you create.

The difference between fantasy and imagination is that the former disregards obvious logic whereas the latter depends on lateral thinking which within itself is not illogical. Any fantasy first needs to be brought down to the level of imagination before anything real can either emerge or be created.
As a result, one indulging in fantasy is letting his mind wander without any purpose or order.... the imaginative person is not purposeless or chaotic.

Not at all, you can be imaginative in the daily mundane things in your life. You need to try to think of new ways of sorting the laundry, maybe take a different route to work, etc. You just have to imagine a different way to do it - and being imaginative only means that you have the capability of thinking of things in more than one way.

Much imagination is fully grounded in reality. It may be no more flighty than anticipating short-term results, or it may be a full-blown fantasy of impossible "what if"'s. Synonyms of "imaginative" include: creative, clever, original, inventive, inspired, ingenious, innovative or resourceful. You can see that these can be quite reality grounded or fantastic.

Not really. There are many "miracles" that happen in real situations. Unexpected things happen every day, so it doesn't have to be make believe to be fantastical.
