Nothing is morally wrong with giving your DVDs to charity. I think its nice of you to decide and do this. My family has given me DVDs in the past. I found out from a niece that they give the new DVDs they receive as gifts and don't really want, to other family members as gifts. Come to think of it, I often do the same with other things. Bottom line is the DVDs now belong to you and you can do what ever you want with them.
I am sorting out clothes to give to charity. A lot of the shirts were gifts but someone else will get some use of them. It's always a good feeling to help the not so fortunate.
I'm sure charity will appreciate what you are doing, best of luck.

I think it is definitely OK to give them to charity. You are not obligated to keep something that is not useful for you. The unwatched DVDs will just clutter your living space and your life. The polite thing to do is to be sure that you always send a thank you note for gifts received. It was kind of your relatives to make the effort to think about getting you a gift and making the effort to choose a gift for you. Sometimes they make mistakes, but it's the the thought that counts.

If you don't watch them and your family won't ask about them, give them away. If you hold on to everything someone gives you, you'll one day be overrun with your collections of things. I know, I was engaged to a pack rat once who had over 3000 video tapes. There were so many he didn't even know what he had on them.
Get rid of what you don't need, keep only what's special. If there is one or two that a family member gave you, keep it for sentimental reasons if you feel you must, but get rid of the rest. You most likely won't regret it.

If you're worried about their sentimental values...don't...
Besides you don't really watch them regularly...what's the use of keeping them?Donating them to charity is a better idea than letting them accumulate dust...
It's hard to give away stuff that are given as gifts but think of it this way...They're better of used than hardly touched...it's for a good cause...i'm sure your family would very much appreciate your 'generosity'...

Give them to charity! And next time a BDay rolls around or some other holiday hint at the fact that you have SOOOO many CD's & DVD's... Maybe your family and friends will get the hint and give you clothes... :)

No, give them to charity. They may have been a gift but if you have watched them then you have enjoyed them. I am sure your family will understand that giving them to charity will also give someone who is less fortunate much joy. If they balk, tell them it's also something that they have also contributed to indirectly. They have given someone else some joy.

Unless your family comes to your house to watch the movies that they have bought you... I dont see the problem. They were meant to be played so they would be better off with someone who likes the movie dont you think?
anothere thing i have done is to put my dvds into albums and get rid of all those boxes / having just over 700 movies ican tell you that this is a tremendous space saver

Giving things to charity is a greater act than keeping it because it is given to you by family. You no longer get any enjoyment from them, so it is morally sound to give it to someone else who can possibly get joy from them. Do it.

If you've got too much stuff, you've got too much stuff! Get rid of the stuff you don't use. Doesn't matter where it came from- if they are movies, you've already seen them, right? So you pass them on to someone who hasn't. No dilemma. Do you think they will really ask in 5 years if you still have that movie? My family wouldn't.... I don't think it would be a problem to get rid of them....

I'd give them to charity as long as no one noticed. It's better for them to have them and use them (potentially) than for them to just sit on your DVD shelf.
