For prevention,

Change baby quickly after a BM and when he/she is wet.
Allow baby 'bum time' everyday for at least 20 minutes.
Dry baby well after bath.
Use cotton wool and water for wipes (or a cotton wash cloth and warm water).
Use cloth diapers if possible.
Acidic fruits like tomatoes add to diaper rash.
Limit time in the stroller, car seat or other devise that keeps babies bum too warm and lacking good air circulation.
Do not use lotions, bubble bath, baby wash or shampoos.

For Treatment,

Follow all the same as above plus use a barriar cream of your choice, one with zinc is a good idea, but as long as the cream is preventing moisture from touching the skin it would help. Very important to wash the cream off well, and allow 'bum time' before putting more on, as the tender skin needs time to dry.

And if non of these work...I find sunshine works wonders for a sore bottom...don't forget the sunblock...many have zinc in them!

The best rash cream is Daktozin only takes 2-3days to heal and it doesnt rub off onto the nappy i use it on my daughter all the time the castor oil is just a barrier cream so when they pee it doesnt sting you can use that over the daktozin.....

Daktozin is a thick cream mostly used for fungal infections but also can be used for a normal rash it contains 15%zinc oxcide which helps prevent redness and irritation.

Any ointment that has 40% zinc oxide which makes the treatment a dry, but smooth paste. Check the label.

The original Desetin is the right thing (NOT the creamy version) but there are many generics which are its equal.

I live in a warm climate and have 2 girls who seemed to live with diaper rash til I discovered that trick.

I use A&D ointment at every change to prevent diaper rash. My littly one tends to get a yeast rash, so the zinc oxide doesn't work. The doctor gave us a prescription for Nystatin, and that clears it right up. I also put bacitracin zinc (Neosporin) on it if it gets raw and open.

Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment. It is 100% natural and can be bought at the chemist. It takes redness and soreness away in a few hours and completely gone by next day.
You can use it for a multitude of things but its great for sore bottoms.

Sometimes if it wasn't too bad, i would put it on and by next nappy change it was gone!

Good old zinc and castor oil cream - anything else made my g little ones skin 100 times worse. Regular changing and a dip in the sink in plain tepid water for each change helps too as does fresh air if you can leave him lying on the changing mat!

Bodreax Butt Paste... Really, that's the name...
Unfortunately, since you call it "nappy rash", I'm guessing you are not in the US... So far, I have only found this brand in the US. It's the only one that works really quickly that I have found.
