If you are looking for a philosophical perspective, the root of your question is really "how can we know what is real?". This is the subject of Ontology ( a subject to grandiose for this answer). There are tools in ontology we can use to identify the the nature of things. Dreams are abstractions of the mind. The dream itself is real in that it is a cognitive experience, just as a magic show or a mirage is "real" in that the event could be experienced. But the images in the dreams are nothing beyond abstractions. Your mind is being tricked, and the tools in ontology can help you separate the illusion from the reality.

Well, a lot of people have been thinking that one over for a lot of years. Carl Jung said that dreams were a representation of the collective consciousness, that the images are a byproduct of the way that our brains are wired, that's why so many cultures have similar legends, creation myths, etc. even though those cultures had no contact with each other. While other believe that dreams are a way for our subconscious mind to communicate with us, and show us how to resolve problems in our waking life. Still others believe that they have some kind of clairvoyant properties, or are images remembered from past lives. But since no ones managed to answer all of the questions about dreams, we're still pretty much on our own with that one.

Dreams are real in terms of the mental experience..... the mind participates without any spatial activity of the body.... it is of course further true that during dreams, we experience emotions and sometimes they do influence the heart-beats, blood flow etc. Dreams are like thinking rather than action. Therefore they are as real as our thoughts are, no more and no less.

In a way dreams are real since they appear to be a way for the mind to make sense of and organize information.

Dreams are generally indications of things your mind is working on related to your daily life.

Sometimes they seem to be not related.
Usually they are odd and disjointed.

Just so you know.....

If a girl says "In you dreams."

.....this means it's NEVER going to be a reality.
