Every healthy woman should have a maternal instinct and in fact it should be built in to their nature. When women do not have a maternal instinct, it obviously shows that they were either raised improperly or have a mental disease such as not liking children. Thoughts like that are not healthy for anybody, especially women, and it isn't good for our society as well. Can you imagine if all the women of our country decided they wanted to pursue a career instead of having children? In a generation, our population would be decimated and all that we would have to protect our country would be older men beyond normal fighting age. Our enemies could easily take us over, either by war or just by waiting another generation.

Your perception that all working career women have a mental disease is idiotic!! A woman can work and have a good career and have maternal instincts. Is that so hard to comprehend? I will tell you what is not good for our society is chauvinistic sexist men such as yourself. Mental illness effects many and it does not matter what your gender, beliefs, or socio-economic status is. Do you remember the Andrea Yates case? She was a stay at home mother that home schooled her kids then killed them all. As far as generalizing that women that work were raised improperly is preposterous as well. Our parents instilled beliefs in us that we can achieve our goals by hard work and determination. I think you seriously need to make an appt with a psychiatrist to diagnose your problems.

I expect throughout history there have been many women who never wanted children and couldn't stand them. They didn't have a maternal instinct. Yet in history, the women stayed together helping each other out. Women were forced to bear children. If they didn't have a maternal instinct, the women in their family or community took the lead to help raise the children. This is nothing new and nothing unnatural in not wanting children. It is quite common. The world and our country are overpopulated as it is. If more women didn't want children, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. It's not a contagious condition.

Nation’s Population to Reach 300 Million on Oct. 17

The U.S. Census Bureau today reported that the nation’s population will reach the historic milestone of 300 million on Oct. 17 at about 7:46 a.m. (EDT). This comes almost 39 years after the 200 million mark was reached on Nov. 20, 1967.

The estimate is based on the expectation that the United States will register one birth every seven seconds and one death every 13 seconds between now and Oct. 17, while net international migration is expected to add one person every 31 seconds. The result is an increase in the total population of one person every 11 seconds. Reference 1

Even with my poor math skills I can see that it took 10 years between 1957 and 1967 to make 30,000,000 baby Americans.

Almost 40 years later we increased that number by one hundred million.

"In a generation, our population would be decimated." ???

Ever heard the term "Overpopulation." ?

Ecologists are begging people to slow down reproduction.

What are we going to do when population exceeds the planet's ability to sustain us?

As far as protecting our country goes, I have no doubt that we have technololgy that eliminates the human factor. At least the infantryman. We a shoot off a rocket and program it's destination miles away. We've disarmed nuclear weapons. I don't think our ability to defend the nation is at huge risk.

So, population growth and military capability is not an issue.

Therefore, I think women who prefer a career over having children to be an asset to our country economically and in regards to populus.

And can we please have Your source on "a mental disease such as not liking children"?

I have never heard a personality trait described as a mental disorder before.

Wow you are thinking a bit diseased yourself. I mean, not EVERY female whats to pursue a career, and so there is no need to think that way about the future. Honestly, YOUR the one saying females are mentally diseased??? Listen to yourself talk, please. I mean, me and a girl I know both do not want to have children. It's not that we don't like children, but we just don't want to go through all that comes with having them. And we were raised very properly. We're not selling ourselves for sex, we're not doing drugs, we're not living in a homeless shelter, we live very active, healthy, stable lives. Neither one of us is 'diseased'. We still have that 'maternal instinct', but that doesn't mean we have to get pregnant.

All 'N' all, your very closed minded about this. It's not as obvious as you make it sound. There are other options to be seen and looked at. But your focused on one thing, and that is your 'beliefs' about how the world should be, and so you miss these things and don't put as much thought into things I think someone should

I think you've gone too extreme on this issue.

I'm 31 and the reason why i don't have kids yet is because in the past 30 yrs of my life I haven't met anyone who's deserving to be my future kids' father. Career became the better substitute. Sometimes chocolate is even better than men.

Finding the right guy is crucial for a careerwoman to change her mind about delaying motherhood. No woman would want it naturally not to have kids without a valid reason. Many factors are involved in this issue, not because they have mental issues whatsoever.

You are really closed minded! My father left my brother and I when we were small children...no child support and leaving my Mother to raise us ALONE! I was taught to take care of myself, because at the end of the day you should only depend on yourself. I see too many women that are single Moms and the man does not want to take responsiblity. I love children, but I never wanted to be a single mother, so I chose to work and take of myself...would I like to have a family, sure, but I don't believe in the dream. I only hope that you are married and have kids and that you take good care and are responsible for them, otherwise you are a hypocrite for making such a cruel remark.

i dont think its that simple. i think most women do have maternal insticts its just in this day and age its so damn expencive to raise a child that women have to get themselves into a good career to be able to financially support their family, except by the time theyre able to afford it, theyre too old to start a family. its just like how education is such a pressure on teens. theyre expected to achieve greatness so they can get a good job and make money. but the pressure is so stressful that when kids arent doing assignments theyre playing computer games and getting fat. but if we blame education for obesity no-one will go along with it.

what they should and shouldnt have has nothing to do with being a woman, or having a mental illness, just because a woman wants a career, and no children, dosent at all mean they dont love kids!! i have 3 adult kids now, and i worked, that was a choice i had, and took! we all are entitled to choose! and if a woman dosent want children, thats her choice!!! not ALL woman have the maternal instinct!
