Yes, The standard is to make overt action to conform to norms and conduct which is the basis of goodness because action must normally preceed righ thinking.

Hmm. If we say good and bad are objective, then I would have to disagree with you. I doubt all you hear can be good. And then even if it was, most people will say that the "bad" need help too. So by only helping good (because it's all you come in contact with) you are discriminating.

Also I do not believe that it means to do something selflessly. A matter of fact, I think that might be impossible to do. As someone said here that a student WANTS to be helpfull. So he is helpfull because he is trying to fullfill his want. So you see, you can only do something that YOU WANT to do, the only exception might be if you don't care. Then how can any action be selfless if you are doing it because YOU want to do it? You are trying to FULLFILL YOUR want. If we did things with out wants to do them, I might go outside and punch my drive way. But I don't WANT to, and so I don't.

this subject is already been debated and taught in philosophy basicly, normal traits (like being a genius or talent of any sort) can not be describe as being good, there are of course evil genius and mad scientist, or whatever u can make up.

there is only one way to determine if someone if "good" and that is good intentions
if someone is doing something with the intention of doing good, then they are a good person, but if they do good deeds in the intention of selfishness then they are considered evil

example: a student tries his hardest to become helpful
if that student really wants to help others, then he is good, but if that student only wants to help to look good, that is selfish, he is a bad person

To me that sounds robotic. Anyone who could actually be that good would be in lockdown from trying to not think bad things, etc. And no one can control their memories, since they are of things that happened in the past and may not have been pleasant. To me virtue means trying in all circumstances not to hurt people. This doesn't mean being a doormat, since sometimes the most helpful thing is to say no. It means trying to be honest in speech and action, as long as it doesn't violate the first rule. No one can not think bad thoughts, we just don't have to allow them to stay or to affect our actions. And above all, one should never allow ones values to be compromised by social pressure from outside.

The truth there is no such thing as good or bad person. Just look no baby is born with horns or hallo.... right.

The way we live or life that is guided by value or principle centre is the key.

Yes, but I prefer to use the word "right" instead of good. Right action, right thought, divine law, divine possibility, etc. By think right and acting right I believe that one cleanses his/her soul (law of karma)... and yes...gets rid of the bad memory cells. By creating positive experiences you can creat good memory cells.

To have good character means not just doing good deeds; it means doing those good deeds for the right reason.

The love of praise from others, neither real or nor imagined praise, can be the right reason. Nor is fear of punishment the right reason. Nor can gain of any sort be the right reason.

The reason we ought to behave good toward others is the conviction that we are all connected together, i.e. that you and I and everyone else are brothers and sisters. The boundaries of I and thou are diminished to the point that I can't tell when my good deed is for you or for me. The only way that can happen is if I am convinced that we are all children of God.

It is not possible to be good all the time to all people, though you may be good in all respects.
