It's a tradition that started in Victorian times, after Queen Victoria got married in white. Before this, girls got married in their best dress, or had one made that would then become their best dress. In Scotland, it was traditional for this to be a dark colour - even black!
It is, as many people have already said, supposed to represent the bride's innocence and virginity.
Many brides today wear ivory instead of white, because it's more flattering.

White is the colour of purity; so that by wearing white, a bride was displaying her virginity.

Prior to about 1940 in Britian, this practice was quite prevalent.

Traditionally a bride would wear their best dress for a wedding. As that was usually the dress they would wear for church and as best it was normally white it became tradition. These days brides tend to wear what they, including bacl!

Simple, it's a tradition. A white dress originally meant they are still a virgin, but that is not how it is anymore.

And all brides don't wear white, just most of them :)

All brides do not wear white. It is to signify virginity, but that really doesn't apply to our society. I think they should just wear jeans and a T-Shirt.

No, white is the traditional, and it stands for virginity. But you should wear any colour you like. It's your wedding after all.
