I'm 17 and I see the ads on TV (although I'm becoming a little desensitized to them) I feel sorry for these poor children.
I come from a pretty well off family and I have a part time job, so I could afford it.
But the thing is all these organisations are Christian based. I'm not Christian and I don't agree with their beliefs
Also, for $1.20 a day only 20c of that money actually goes to the child.
I plan to do volunteer work in the future. Is there any other way I can help?

I live in New Zealand. I over heard my Grandmother telling me she was going to knit socks for prisoners in Mongolia. I might help her. Do you think this is a good idea?

Better save the money for now...
Whose money is used to pay for the really expensive TV adverts and for the administration...?
On your first big vacation to a poor country (like Philippines,India,Thailand et.c)Go to a school, temple, church or so and ask a teacher, priest or so ,if they know about a good, poor child with a post address.
I´m sure ,they know- and the money will not go to drug addicts or TV-ads!
Establish letter contact, and send a parcel or some money from time to time.
I recommended this to a jewish woman-and she is supporting a poor palestinian family, who doesn´t have a father.(He was killed by Israelis in an "operation"-military operation!)
She is doing more for peace in the middle east, than all those grinning politicians...

I'm sure there are non-Christian charities that you could turn to, maybe they just don't run ads everywhere all the time, so it's a little trickier to find them. Try doing some search on the internet, I'm sure you'll find something. Christian charities usually mention that they're Christian, so if you can find a charity that doesn't mention anything like that, there's a good chance it has nothing to do with religion (and you can always ask to be sure).
I'm sorry I can't point out any specific charities in your area. I only know Icelandic non-religious charities, but it would naturally be simpler for you to find ones from your area. Good luck and it's great to see that there are still people out there who care. :)

Well, there is one true Christian religion; most others are false so whether you just don't believe in them because you simply don't appreciate Christian beliefs is one thing---that's bad for you to be this way, but on the other hand, if you just simply don't believe in most so-called Christian religions because you are disgusted with how many claim to be Christians but their conduct proves otherwise, that is something to commend you on.
Many times these so-called Christian-based charity programs are scams and in the end they are found out to be criminal and extortioning in nature and the leaders and some agents of the organizations are jailed.
Which one is it for you? Is it: 1)That you just don't believe in Christianty period, or: 2) you are just burdened by the constant misconduct of so-called Christian religions where the perisheners and religious leaders are false?
As for the children, maybe it's just a good idea to contact the school they attend or the village headship and send aid directly to the source instead of going thru what could be a misleading, greedy, unlawful behaving thought to be Christian aid organization.
Please confirm.
EDIT:
It's too bad that it's both. Did you know that at Armageddon about 90% of the world's population will sadly lose their lives? This is a very sad fact. I hope you change your stand before Armageddon. Remember, it (the A-day) will come as a thief in the night and no man, no one in fact knows the time nor date. Surely you cannot believe that our Grand Creator, God, expected us to live in this pillaging and chaotic, horrific conditions forever, right? Oh well...God bless.

I've stopped caring about 3rd-world countries a long time ago. It sounds cruel, but feeding them only makes them grown and reproduce more - it's no longer the West's problem quite frankly, even though many of us seem to think it is.
