Certainly the pyramids and Egyptian history. However I always think of a very narrow and crowded street and the bazaar with all the men wearing those long striped robes and a fez on their head. Cars trying to get through beeping their horns and the occasional European struggling to get through the crowd wearing a grubby white suit and a Panama hat. Lots of noise and bustle with the odd camel or donkey being driven through, Hot and sweaty and the smell of hookah pipes and spices filling the air. All kinds of things for sale with traders shouting to try to attract customers. Now and again you'll hear pipes playing as a snake charmer demonstrates his skills and the women wearing black robes and their faces covered congregate around the stalls that sell spices, meat, fruit and vegetables all trying to find bargains.

Gotta say pharaohs. I know it's an old stereotype but when ancient egyptian culture is pounded into your head as a kid it has a way of sticking around when you're an adult.
