Conway Twitty,
There never was anyone who could compare to Conway.
There never will be another like him , He was the best even though there has been and is now some great Country Artists.

I think you are on the right track with George Strait. He is a good mix of the ol' country flavor like Merle, Waylon and Johnny yet has new spice for a newer, younger generation of country listeners

George Strait is considered the King of Country music...and of course Hank Williams Jr. and Hank Sr.......Johnny Cash...... There are so many more but these are a start.

Wow, this IS a tough one....George Strait, Hank Williams Sr, Waylon, Merle, Conway Twitty and George Jones are my absolute faves, but I can't leave out Chris LeDoux or the hardly heard of Moe Bandy. If I had to pick ONE, guess it would have to be Conway Twitty.

For men, either Conway Twitty or Jim Reeves. Their voices both give me chills, and I could never get tired of hearing them. As for women, I'll go with Loretta Lynn. She's diverse, she's sang some awesome songs, and she just seems like such a cool lady in general. And for the people that suggested Shania... That's not even country. Don't disgrace the musical genre by saying that.

george has already eclipsed them. george has the most number 1 singles in the world and conway twitty is second behind george. no rock group is close to them. dianna ross and the supremes had 19 number 1 hits. there is a lot of good young singers out there. they have something to shoot for.

I would have to say George Strait for male and Reba McEntire or Lorretta Lynn for female.
