I thought you were supposed to do one before the other, am i right? Should you do these about monthly or so? thanks

When you carry out defragmentation of your drive, error checking is initially performed prior defragmentation. For Windows XP, the error checking process is part of the Analyze process during defragmentation. But, note: this auto error checking only fixes system file errors and does not isolate bad sectors on drive. So, during defragmentation and if program encounters a bad sector, defragmentation will cease, and you will have to run a Thorough Scan Disk.

Error checking then Defrag, yes.

How often depends what you do on the PC, if you merely surf etc, not so vital, if you do video work, more important.

you sohuld defrag any time you add or delete programs, i do it about every 90 days, as i d/l a bunch of music, guitar tabs, etc. I would error check before. . .
