Bruno...that was such a great movie. He was wearing his "Holy Vestment". The nuns didn't want him wearing dresses, but his stand was that the angels wore dresses.
Alex D. Linz played Bruno and his parents were divorced and his dad was a cop, but had no contact with him. His mom was very large and people made fun of her. I don't think she got hit by a car, I think she had an episode with her heart. Shirley MacLaine's character took him in and eventually began to love him and his mother. They made his costumes for each spelling bee he entered. Eventually his father came around.
The dad was played by Gary Sinise.
By the way, the lady who played Angela (Bruno's mother) Stacey Halprin was on Oprah a couple of years ago and had lost 250 pounds.
