Ok, so wait, whats the actual logic and concept of the whole "emo" thing?

I don't really know, but they are posers who are too scared to be full fledged rockers. It's like they're too scared to commit to the rock lifestyle or something... They rather spend their life cutting themselves and what not. What a bunch of freaks...

if you mean the dress? the dress spawned the same way as the music. emo music is an offshoot of the modern punk genre and is supposed to be 'emotional' (hence the 'emo) so it makes sense that the clothing would be a mixture of the two styles, the origins of punk mixed wiht the depressive emotional tones of the gothic sub culture and their music.

other things like the cutting? cutting is a psychological thing much like drinking or drug use. they use it 'as an escape'. the logic is as follows.

hypothetically a kid gets dumped by his long time , serious, girl friend. he's very upset to the point of being nearly depressed. this is understandable right? many people go into depressions after breakups. as a natural reflex people look for a way to subdue the emotional pain, some drink it away, some use other drugs, the classic 'emo' makes a small cut on their arm. physical pain forces the body to react, adrenaline spikes and your entire being is focused on the pain. this draws your attention away from emotional pain and makes you, i suppose, more sane for a time.

it is NOT the 'romanticized' ideal of suicide, granted there ARE some people that think it's cool to bleed and are masochistic but not all emos are like that. i suppose you coudl say even THEY have real emos that do things for the above reasons , and posers that do it to fit in with them, though why someone that's not emo would want to be classified emo is tottally beyond me.

emo- short for emotional. and that's what they are. they're a group of teenager-young adult who find the world a dark and horrible place. they look for the negative aspects in their lives and society. to them the world is pure crap and find it best to live their life dressed in dark clothing, writing how bad they think the world is in their journals, and listening to emo music, which is pretty cynical and dark. and the funny thing is that many say this music is what keeps them living. if i were really that depressed and angry at the world, listening to that emo music would make me want to kill myself even more. BUT most emo kids would never do that. at most they'll cut themselves, leaving little scars that would fade after a year. IN A NUTSHELL: they make a mountain out of an ant hill. we all live in the same society they do but we get over it! they want to be labeled as emo(though they would deny even being emo) because they want to be a part of something. a part of a subculture consisting of people who, like them, feels the pain of living.

Real emo people cut themselfs....Fake emo people just dress like them but don't cut themselfs(and i find fake emo's extremely hot! Good thing my boyfriend is a fake emo lol. :P)
