I like watching streaming and dvd movies on my computer. My problem is that after 20 minutes of no activity (even when the movie is playing) my monitor goes black and gives me a "No Signal" message and then turns itself off. This has occasionally caused my computer to crash. To me, it feels like the computer wants to go into like a sleep or screen saver mode, because it happens after 20 minutes. I have tested this by moving my mouse at intervals during a movie and then have experienced no problems.

I assume there is something built into the monitor to turn it off if it does not seem to be in use.

Any ideas?

Screen power saver mode being enabled

Richt click your desktop,
Select properties.
Click "Screen saver" at the top of the window
Then set screen saver to "None" and click "power" button below this
Set Turn off monitor, and Turn off harddrive to NEVER, same for System Standby.
Click Save As, name it always on. and OK

Go back enjoy movies.

Go to start, control panel, power options. Make sure power scheme is set to always on, and the turn off monitor and hard disk settings are set to never.

first thing you need to do is check your settings in your control panel. go to your power options and see what that says under automatic power down. or something to that effect. that's probably where the problem is. and it that doesn't work, you might have an error on your software for you monitor. but check your power settings first.

make sure you plugged the 6-pin power connector to your HD4850. then make sure you have the monitor cable plugged in the correct spot. you might have 2 output jacks on your gpu, 1 works with monitor 1 and has to be used. drivers are not installed until after you boot into windows.

Sounds like a loose connection. If you don't turn a monitor off it won't go into sleep mode itself.
