You can't say "it's okay to give a wife a bedtime, and that you Used To Do It all the time, and that it is part of being a responsible husband" if the end of that sentence is: "and then she divorced me.", ok?
Obviously, your ex-wife did not share your sentiments. Obviously, there was no void and you were not making her "feel safe".
What people on here are telling you, is that what she felt was Manipulated.
Personally, I don't need someone to tell me to go to bed.
I work, maintain my home and car, help support my college-age daughter, and am raising the two I have left at home.
I struggle after work to Stay Out of Bed.
All I want to do is sleep.
So, all he has to do is say the word, dear, and I am there. Out like a light. But mostly, I'd bet, I'd beat him to it anyway.
Oh, and PS: My man is not a "father figure" to me.
That's way too pedophelic, incestuous, and creepy.
He's my partner. We'll leave it at that.

A person who did not have a good relationship with their father, especially females, seek out older males which can be so very dangerous to/for the female. A male is a different story. But a man who takes that kind of role can be looked at in so many ways. Such as taking advantage of a young girl and being a bit sick in the head as well. I think do not think a grown woman would have a 'bedtime'. That is entirely unfair and just so very wrong to me. Seriously, not all women need 'farther figures'. Those that do are like I said, and they do usually need mental help, and I am not making that up. To do that, is creepy and wrong

For all that you expect women to do for you, I'm surprised you'd set a bedtime other than "when everthing is done", which could take all night.
My parents were never able to set a bedtime for me. I've been a chronic insomniac since birth. I sleep when I can. But most of the time, I don't. Having someone set a bedtime for me would just make the insomnia worse.

Well I think if the woman wanted a father role model then she would have never move out and got a husband, she would have stayed in her parents house. I assume she married a man to stand beside her and not in front of or behind her.

umm no. most women are happy to be inependent and they don't need a father-figure. They're grown up. I mean, do you still need a mother figure? NO! well some mother should teach you a lesson because you and your wife should respect each other equally and you shouldnt feel so damn superior to her. Hello, you love her, you're married to her, you're not her boss or something!

Well, Sandstorm, once again, looks like you're the only one.
Either you need to start explaining that you are not of Western culture, or you need to ask more appropriate questions.
I think one of your answerers explained it best:
A marriage is a union, not a take over.....
Mull on that one a bit, and see if things aren't a little clearer.

Okay, you're self centered and egotistical. Women get married not to have a father figure but to have a husband. Your wife should be allowed to go to bed any friggin time she likes.

Oh please, spare me.
Where do you get these so called facts of yours?
I lived on my own for a number of years and never needed a father figure to run my life, let alone set my bedtime.
A andult woman should be allowed to go to bed when she wishes, and if she doesn't get enough sleep, then she gets to suffer the consequences of it.
Not your place to dictate it.

I think the key points of your question are: "you used to do it all the time"-Looks like that didn't work well for you? I'm sure that wasn't the only reason she left you.
