If this is intended to be a serious debate - rather than something done for fun to illustrate the principles of debate - you could talk about how cramming to regurgitate information does not lead to actual learning. Actual learning happens when a person is allowed to apply concepts in a real world environment.

Although this argument might be best for certain types of homework rather than homework in general.

If it's a debate for fun, talk about how homework cuts into the time needed to increase your skills at text messaging or IMing. How you need that time to search for the latest MP3s of your favorite pop singers. And how homework takes away from the time needed to decompress after a long day of having your brain filled with useless knowledge at school.

you need home to teach yourself discipline. But since you are debating the other side of this argument you could say that homework should be done in class so when and if you need help you are getting the correct help. Parents are good but most have been out of school so long they don't always remember the correct steps to take and can teach you the wrong way to do things. I wouldn't walk into this debate thinking you are going to win but you can at least go into it with something.

Are you arguing against homework? Good luck defending that one. I disagree but how about this argument: In the real world people are more likely to be working and solving problems in groups. It would be a more productive learning experience for people to work things out together in class and learn through interaction rather than alone at home.

Or there is no need for homework because people will just go on yahoo answers and have other people do it for them.

OH BOY I can give you a debate on that I have 4 children and they spend 6 hours in class every day but can't pass their classes mostly due to homework assignment late or not turned in. Why can they pass if they spend 6 hours in school 5 day a week? Is passing a class mostly due to what they do at home? I think if you choose not to do your homework and attend class every day you should be educated enough to at least earn a C.

1. Should not get homework because we have a teacher, the teacher is getting paid to teach us in the class. So he is forcing us to study at home because he is not good enough in the class.
2. Should not get homework because both parent(s) are working and need to help at home, life is difficult.
3. Should not get homework because we need to know something else also, like quitar or piano or excel in sports.
4. Should not get homework because its too stressfull on young peoples minds and senses. Students may start getting XANAX to relax.
5. Should not get homework because we become overweight since we seat on the same chair for hours. Also leads to poor eyesight.
6. Should not get homework because all teachers give homework and this creates a mad-house. If we should get homework it should be structured and agrred by all parties involved.
7. Should not get homework because some people are poor and work after school. Good for them....!

Truly great instructors can captivate the attention of their students. Every second of the lesson hour can be utilized, creating an interactive experience that imprints the minds of the learners with the lesson in a saturation of immediacy, relevancy, purpose.

Those who can't deliver, give homework.

I did a debate like that once. It's best if you twist the truth around.
* You could say it interfers with our social life.
*Homework is like bringing a part of school with you, why do that when you have to suffer six hours of it already?
*It doesn't give us enough time to enjoy the real preasures of life
*Wedon't get a chance to socilaise.

just do your homework dammit

um about ideas though maybe you could make a point about sports and family life and jobs and something else. If you really look at it there is no reason why you shouldn't get homework
