kills the trees because of all the paper you have to use... (even though it's recyclable)

the use of pens which aren't recyclable...

means that you have to use transportation to get to the library... pollution on the roads... :o)

Reasonable amount of homework is fine to practice the skills... but if it is just going to be swampfuls of homework that are unreasonable and don't allow for time to be spent on other subjects... then it really burning out the kid... and the kid is not going to remember anything which is the whole intent of homework which is to reinforce the skills.... Unreasonable loads of homework would mean that the kid is too tired to remember anything... and will be too tired the next day when he/she goes back to school... and won't be able to learn new things in school... to take back home the next day... to do the next round of unreasonable homework... not to mention hate the subjects, hate school, hate homework, hate the teachers, and hate learning and reading books...

1. Adults work an 8 hour day and students go to school 8 hours a day. That's 40 hours of classroom time a week (minus lunch and breaks)! That should be enough time in the school day to accomplish all that needs to be accomplished. If not, then schools and faculty need to become more efficient, not punish the kids with homework.

2. Downtime, leisure time, and playtime are all important. Some kids literally devote their entire day to studying and attending class. That's just crazy! We need to keep our perspective about us and to maintain a balance.

3. Homework is inefficient in that IF the child has a question, he has to wait until the next day to ask it. AND nothing says that just because he has a question, that he can stop what he's doing. Think about this madness. He must complete his homework EVEN if he isn't sure how to proceed! What kind of teaching aid is this? Do it wrong THEN ask your questions!

Offer alternatives like doing homework in class where student can get help, students could take an elective of guided personal study on a subject, school doesn't teach you for life and is a poor preparation for anything much. Students and parents should have more say so to what they are about not about being indoctrinated. Since when does government know best? Students should choose. Study could be from home by computer some days and save the school money and even provide computers for low income. Class time is spent checking homework, it could be done and handed by computer. The system is retro anyway. Schools are unsafe. Form a citizens on line site for parents united to tell schools what they want instead of vice versa by a bunch of idiots who are only cloning themselves. On line students could get a better variety of courses, better teachers and national standardization and use schools for other purposes like recreation, social skills and housing. lol I'm surprised they let you debate. Isn't that uncomfortably close to thinking for yourself?

1) Homework takes time away from other important activities, like sports, socializing with peers & family, religious activities in the evening, and even rest.
2) The students should be able to get the concepts plus some practice during school time. Homework is not necessary.
3) Homework discriminates against students who need to have after-school jobs.
4) Homework discriminates against poor children, who live in crowded homes, with drunken parents, noisy houses, no place to work, or need to care for younger siblings while parents are at second & third jobs.
5) The kids who do their homework are the good students, who least need it.
6) The kids who need to do the most homework have the fewest resources at home (adults, computers) to help them get it done.
7) Homework discriminates against kids with disabilities like ADD and other organizational problems. They often lose their homework & then get penalized for it.
