Luke is pretty much a nick name within itself.

Only if his middle name was Sky or forget it no way. After all that's pretty much all the guy at work hears is Luke I am your father and other stuff. I'd say be more original. Although not many people can have a son called Luke Sky Walker so hey if you really want to then go for it. But also remember that it may not be such a good thing either.

I wouldn't, just because he'd be teased SOOO much. If you love the name, why not use it as a middle name? Another option is the increasingly hip idea to hyphenate the first name (middle name optional). For example, something like John-Luke Walker or Luke-Robert Walker or Jeremy-Luke Brady Walker. The similarity between "Luke Skywalker" and your son's name would then be much less pronounced and less likely to become a source of hilarity to schoolground "friends."

Luke is cool. I have a friend named Luke. Nice name. Good so people dont mess it up. Luke Walker is pretty easy to spell right. Trust me, I have a really common easy to spell last name(the last name of Rowan _ check imdb.com for rat race to know what) and somehow they just say the first 6 letters even when reading it. Luckily my first name, as in _ Hartnett, is not mistaken.

If a kid is going to be teased about a name then I guess you couldn't get much better, I mean it is such a cool character and all.
But if you are worried about it then why don't you name him Lucas, so to friends at school he would be known as lucas Walker but at home you could call him Luke.
