what you need to do is:

be the character you're playing!!!!!!!!!!!!

be him!

thats whats its all about-thats the secret

u have to understand what its going through to be able to express any emotion

for example if there' a scene where you have to cry, you can't automatically just start crying. why? because theres no emotion.

you have to become the character...understand what its going through then you'll realize the energy was always there...you just needed to use it a bit more. thats all

hope i helped!

Hi,

I'm always amazed at these kinds of questions in particular. My first question is if you asked your acting teacher? If the answer is no, then I would ask him/her instead of complete strangers.
If you don't have an acting teacher, then you should have one if you are serious about acting, especially if you are in your second year. If you are not taking classes you are not setting yourself up for long-term success.

Any tips that you receive here or in any forum, you will have to try and put them into practice and apply them all by yourself. And then who will be the judge about whether they work or not? You? But you are not qualified.

I know it might sound harsh what I'm saying, but I mean it all in good faith. It's why I have decided to build a website and write a book with the objective of inspiring actors (by yes, sometimes being provocative) to build a base and position themselves for success!

Right now, you are operating on a short-term strategy. I'll call myself an actor. Try things out. Get some jobs. If people like what I do, then I'll keep going. If I can get by without taking classes, then great.

So after all this, you are sitting there thinking to yourself, "This --- doesn't know what he's talking about. I am taking classes...", then why haven't you asked your teacher?
If you have asked him/her and you don't trust his/her answer or it's not helping you, then maybe you should think about changing teachers.

That's my two cents. I really do wish you the best of luck in your career though.

Build your base first and your chances will increase of becoming the actor you really want to become!

I'd like to know what a second year actor is? So if you are in a film acting class and you have been told you lack energy, it means you are not presenting the character as though he cares about what he is saying. Remember, everything a characater says if vitally important to him, in scripts there is no such thing as a throw away line. Be the character urgently expressing his ideas and emotions and you will lift the energy.

I expect you are young . You may be trying to play juvenile roles , for which you need a lot of vitality . It doesn't always come easily . You may physically look the part ; but for some young actors being the part is not easy . Some actors are born character actors , slower and more heavy in their movement . That may be you too . In my youth it was difficult for young actors and actresses to play character roles because they looked too young , before about the age of 35 . You have to get right in there work on your roles find some proffessional help , work in front of a big mirror .

you are probably trying too hard to say the lines and the premeditated emotions.
you have to embody the character first, and then you can start acting well.
when you learn your lines, never learn them with emotion.
just say them over and over, no emotion, no emphasis, nothing.
if you start associating emotions before you even have the lines learned, when youre on stage the emotions will seem fake and forced.
hope your next performance is better!

I notice that when i try too hard to act, it looks weird. Usually when I don't focus on it too hard and just do what I want to, Im way better. Try this!!
