hey guys for our chemistry class we need to test and prove the properties of carbon dioxide. so for example, to prove its odourless we smell it, stuff like that. but i need some tests for the more complicated properties such as co2 can extinguish fires and so on. if you have any ideas please reply! thanks

One commonly used test for carbon dioxide is the wooden splint test. A wooden splint is lit on fire and held over the carbon dioxide. The fire should start to grow weaker.

1. Will put out a lit splint. Will turn moist blue litmus paper red, and moist universal indicator paper orange. 2. Human respiration (breathing): 2 BMT (Billion Metric Tons) Domesticated animals respiration: 6 BMT Wild Animal (excluding Insects) respiration: 4 BMT Burning of fossil fuels in Internal Combustion Engines (cars, etc): 16 BMT Burning of fossil fuels to Generate Electricity: 9 BMT Other Human-Industrial CO2 emissions: 1 BMT Carbon dioxide mainly leaves the atmosphere by being soaked up by the oceans 3. It is needed for plants so that inturn we can breathe. 4. It is used in soft drinks to make it fizzy, pop rocks have it in, fire extinguishers, baking powder etc.
