i'm just wondering what the point is if you gotta break it anyway and it doesn't seem to do anything cuz there are holes in it.

It's there to help keep fecal matter from getting into something it shouldn't. There are no "holes" in it--it's shaped like a quarter moon.

During the early stages of fetal development there is no opening into the vagina at all. The thin layer of tissue that conceals the vagina at this time usually divides incompletely prior to birth, forming the hymen.

Interesting question. I always assumed it was to protect the cervix and uterus from outside germs. If there is another reason I am unaware of it.
