Okay...So I am definitely NOT a computer kid. But just yesterday, I started getting POP UPS from Internet Explorer 7, while using Firefox. I uninstalled IE7, but IE6 still exists because its preinstalled with Windows XP, right? I need to get rid of IE6 because I cannot take these popups. The pop up blocker is on, but it automatically turns off when each pop up happens. I'm not getting like porn for pop ups...Just random things. False virus scans, BS win a ps3..That kinda junk. I just need to get rid of IE6. I cannot find it in my Add/Remove section in the Control Panel. Please do not post here to say "Sorry, don't know." This isnt a place to rack up a post count. I am in serious need for instructions. I've screwed up our computers too many times, and we can't afford another one :S

You are right IE6 comes with XP and you cannot uninstall it using an install sheild or something. But one thing you can do is delete the internet explorer folder that will be there in C:/ProgramFiles assuming you have installed your Xp on Cdrive but not sure of the result (havent tried it)

Somekind of spyware or adware or trojan has got into your computer. And I suggest you use this program to get rid of them:

I have faced similar problems in the past and have used the above software to get rid of them.

Happy Browsing!!

You can't completely remove IE6. It's an integral part of the OS. You can use Firefox or any other browser by default if you wish, just hit Start > Set Program Access and Defaults. You might find some sites that purport to be able to show you how to "remove" IE but if you do you will mess up several critical parts of the OS including the Help system and certain graphics rendering features.

But you should clean up the spyware and viruses on your machine first. And make sure you have a firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware. And practice "safe" surfing! Any browser can be hijacked and Firefox is no exception! It has had as many vulnerabilities as IE has.

First, you don't need to get rid of it. Just make Firefox you default browser, and don't use IE6. To do this click Start, and go to 'Set program access and defualts.' Sellect the 'custom' option, and set whatever you want.
Second, IE6 is probably not the problem. It sounds like the pop up blocker is. Download either the google bar or the yahoo bar. Both have a good pop up blocker

As a matter of fact you cannot uninstall IE6 (XP) IE7(vista). So Just do shift delete all the contents of Internet explorer 6 in C/program files it will install IE6 once again. ur problem is solved no more currupted IE6. New copy will of IE6 will be installed.
The best thing to do is reinstall XP. and use firefox without any problem.

In the Control Panel, click on Add or Remove Programs.
Select on Remove/Add Windows Programs. Select on Internet Explorer 6. And click to uninstall.
If you still have problems, use Opera instead of IE 7.

If you have tried to uninstall IE 6 from control panal progams & you cant find it then you probably have a virus , have you a quality anti virus progam like CA anti virus?. I have had this product for 9 months with no problems. My computer has IE7 &Mozilla firefox running with no problems,a one years subscription costs about $90.00. Install all the components except the fire wall this did block too much content. I hope this helps.

This may not be IE though. There are also messages that can be sent over the network, which are common, but not pop-ups technically. They exploit a weakness in Windows.

You have to right-click on "my computer" and go to "manage"
Then expand the Services and Applications
Click on "services"
Then on the right look for the service "messenger"
Double click on that
click the "stop" button
Then by the startup type, choose "disabled"
Then click ok and close the previous window
That should stop the messages.
