I've heard that there are hypnotist shows where people act in funny ways. Anyone willing to share their experience? Would you do it again?

It sounds like Robin's mother played a good trick on her as a child! Is it real? Depends what you mean. Hypnosis is nothing more than deep relaxation. Some people (about 10% of the population from what I've read) seem to be able to get into a deep enough relaxation that you can evoke images in their mind - like guided imagrey. And you may be able to help them recall memories from past events. However, all the shows you have seen where hypnotists make people act like chickens or do something outrageous are fake!

I say hypnosis is real. It's just the right choice of words, used with the right actions, at the right moment. My mother was a very good hypnotist. She was able to hypnotise her friends to act crazy. Once, she made her friend believe that she was trapped in a glass box, surrounded by monsters. The monsters couldn't get to her, but she was terrified. She ended up tried to break through the box, ending in her thinking she had cut herself up because of the glass.

Remember that not all people can be hypnotized, and that you can't make someone do something that they don't believe in (such as hypnotizing someone to commit a murder, or to steal. Their conscience won't let them.)

Note: As Daniel said, hypnosis is just making this person experiencing images in their mind that seem life-like. They just believe what they see is real. Hypnosis is real, but all it is is making someone believe what they are seeing is the truth. Also, in my story above, I don't think that my mother was trying to trick me. I believe that she had made this girl believe that she was stuck in a box, which in turn made her believe she was cutting herself. That story was not meant to be used as a warning, but merely as a story saying that hypnosis is plausible.
