Why can't gay men donate blood? Straight men and women, bisexual men and women and lesbian women can all get HIV/AIDS also. It makes no sense to single out gay men any more. Besides all that, the screening is so good that any contaminated blood is discarded anyway. So why the discrimination?

Dear knittinmama,

I'm sorry to inform you BUT, more "straight" people have died from HIV/AIDS world wide than gay men/women or bisexuals.

Probably for the same reason that cancer survivors can't. Even if test negative for HIV it may still be circulating in your body if you have ever had relationships with positive people. The same with cancer cells. I am 3 year cancer survivor and the Red Cross stopped calling me when I told them I had cancer.

Probably lesbians are not included in the list is because there is minimal if any exchange of bodily fluids during their relationships. I guess they don't think deep kissing counts as exchange of bodily fluid. and Heterosexuals are less likely to carry the virus (the old Victorian notion of only one partner and no experimentation before or after marriage)
