Miss Kelly, it is astonishing to me that you do not know the answer to your question before you ask it.
The Democrat position with respect to illegals is the same as it is to most of their base...socialism.
Democrats have realized that they can keep themselves in office by providing meager handouts to the masses. Those who receive these handouts are easily fooled, useful idiots if you will, who accept the minimum, rather than work toward their full capacity. These are not the needy, mind you, they are just easily fooled into thinking that there is nothing better.
Democrats court illegal aliens...because they believe that they will eventually succeed in making them citizens....and Democrats.

I don't think it's that much money to do so. probably a small fraction of what we spend on politicians pensions and salaries, and aid to other countries.
the reason they propose amnesty is because those that are here are working under the table. When they get legal, they'll have tax like the rest of us.
***I really learned something from this question. Hi's answer is somethig I hadn't thought about. I haven't thought much about this subject because I thought that is was just racist to not be for amnesty. I see a bigger picture now.

I'm not a Democrat but would like to respond. I have heard that they want to take money for the elderly to pay for health care for children, but I haven't heard about it being for illegal children.
This is what I found.

its bush who's pushing for it the most...
I'm not for every illegal having amnesty. I think some deserve it. if you've paid taxes, worked, not broken the law (other than being here illegally) and are willing to learn english- you should get amnesty.
and if you are college age and younger you should apply for legal citizenship.
