I think Jonathan is a lovely name- primarily because it is my dad's name.
- I hate the names darren, thad, franklin, vincent and thomson.
- Colin is ok but it is a little to old fasioned
-Same goes for richard
- Brandon is ok but i have a grudge against it cause when i was in kinder a kid called brandon hit me over the head with a truck.
- I have always liked the name timothy and can be shortened stylishly: Tim, Timmy etc;

You know that by the time your son reaches school age, the
kids will have shortened his name most likely to call him by
a shortened version of his given name? Kids do that. They
also find names that rhyme with the kids names if they want
to pick on them. So you have to consider that when you
choose a name they will have the rest of their lives, unless
they choose to change it later on in life.
Timothy sounds too gay, so he would be called, Tim. And
Richard will become Ricky and Rick later on. Franklin, is
also gay sounding, and yet he could be "Frank". Thad was
a gay looking guy on old Gunsmoke episodes. His career
went down the tubes. Sorry about that association. But he
was the only Thad I remember period. Johnny will stay
Johnny, and most people would choose John for his given
name and Johnny as his shortened nickname. Vincent would
be Vince. Gays seem to use longer names and not the
shortened versions for some reason. Thomson is a last
name. But he's be given Thom, probably. Darren reminds
me of Darren Stevens on the old Bewitched series now on
old reruns. These mostly are old fashioned names, I have
to say. Colin is old too. Think of Colin Powell the black
general now in politics. At least, I think he was a general.
Richard will never go out of style. It's been a name that has
been carried down for centuries. Think of King Richard, the
Lion Hearted from England. And Vincent van Goh the artist
from the 1800's. Of all you listed, I would go with Richard.
And I'd be calling him Ricky from birth. And Rick he'd choose
by his teens. Think of the late singer, Rick Nelson. He was
Ricky growing up both on TV and in his private life.
It's not easy picking out a name. And sometimes, you have
to change the name you originally chose when you see your
precious little one for the first time. Then maybe an entirely
different name will come to mind and you will think that your
chosen name doesn't fit that little face you're looking at. And
then you'll say the name of that name that just came to mind.
A mother looking at the face of her first born and thinking he's
all yours. And he doesn't look one bit like the "Franklin" you
thought he'd be LOL. So don't stress over names now,
wait until you see him and as his mother, it should come to
you when you see him. Then call his daddy in and tell him
what name you see in his little face. And hopefully he'll approve.

Jonathan is lovely, I like established, traditional names and they will not date like modern, trendy names will. Jon is nice as a short-form.
And to the above poster, no name is "boring" you only get boring people not boring names!!!
Timothy is my cousin's name, we call him Tim. Its also very nice.
I love the name Richard and wanted to call my son that but my other half worked with a man called Richard who was a bit of an idiot and so wouldn't consider it!
Vincent is very nice and unusual these days.
Not so keen on Brandon, Franklin, Thad (Tad, Thaddeus ?), Thomson or Colin. And Johnny is just a variant of John.

jonathan is so common... darren makes me think of an older man i used to know darren isn't too original or updated...timothy makes me think of the late 50's. Richard makes me think of an older man, Colin is somewhat newer and not too many people have that name. Franklin reminds me of Steve Urkle from Family Matters, Thad is nice kind of sounds red-neckish. Johnny reminds me of a bad kid riding a motorcycle at 15 with smokes rolled up in his shirt sleeve. Vincent is ALRIGHT, Thomson makes me think of a nerdy little boy. My advice is to get a baby name book and look through the whole thing and find something that fits you and something that you think nobody else would choose or something unique.

I like Jonathan, the best friend of David in the Book of Samuel. Faithful and true!
Johnny and Thad are nicknames. I don't recommend them for a proper first name. (I have a nick name for a first name and people are always asking me if my "real" name is*******).
Thomson is a last name. Richard will always be shortened to Dick.
My favorite of your list is Jonathan.

Richard - nickname?? Dick or Rick? eck
Brandon - too preppy.
Colin- knew someone by that name, didn't like him to well.
Franklin - older man -frank as a nickname?
Thad -thounds like thomeone can't thpeak right.
Johnny- not as a full name see Jonathan above.
Vincent- reminds me of a mob boss.
Thomson- gazelle- last name of someone.

I love Jonathan. I picture a tall, well-dressed man who is kind and well-mannered but also very handsome and masculine. Jonathan is the kind of guy who makes everyone laugh at parties and the kind of guy who everyone trusts with their secrets and asks for advice.
Of the other names you listed...
Timothy - masculine, athletic, loyal, a good buddy to everyone
Darren - I like the name, but when I try to picture a modern guy named Darren I can only think of the character on "Bewitched"
Richard - big guy, likes dirty jokes and video games, sort of sloppy (this perception is very influenced by the only Richard I know)
Brandon - average guy, average grades, average looks, average sense of humor
Colin - intelligent and good-looking, the kind of guy you ask to prom and then ask to fix your computer
Franklin - introverted, sort of dorky, quiet, not much fun to be around
Thad - a blonde guy with funky hair and a big ego
Johnny - a sort of "Dennis the Menace"-type of troublemaker, a guy who means well but gets into trouble due to a combination of high immaturity and low common sense
Vincent - I can only picture the "Vincent Price" type muppet from the "Monsterpiece Theater" segment on Sesame Street
Thomson - square head, buzz cut, freckles, the kind of guy who goes on to the military directly after high school because he likes trucks and guns and camo and tackling people
