seeing as this is the philosophy section, love is a metaphor,
and in this metaphor, love is fire and to conquer it, we've got to wield that ball of fire in our hands, but the problem is, is that fire(as everyone knows) is extremely dangerous, and we can wear gloves and never get too close or we can risk it and it takes a lot of surgery to fix burns.
so if you say, i can just take off the gloves later, realize how hard it would be to hold fire in one hand while taking off the glove. people who say time heals all wounds have never been burnt before

your question itself already reveals the dilemma.
if you are afraid, you will think of love as fire and as dangerous. this fear is natural, of course, but love can't be made in fear, cannot survive because of fear and will never change however you try to protect yourself.
if you try to overcome your fear, you will see love a different way. for example like a precious and fragile glass sculpture or a soap bubble or even a house. then in time you come to see that there might be chaos sometimes in one of the rooms of your house or that it needs renovation from time to time, but even if it totally breaks down, there is always a way to find another "home" or simply rebuild the old one.
something i learned on Y!A:
"Imagine you are caged in a metal box and there's no way out. What do you do?" - Stop imagining you're caged in a metal box!

That's an easy one for me...
They've never yet invented a pair of "love gloves" that will prevent "burns..."
"Love" burns hotter than the surface of the Sun...(when it DOES burn...)
Even an astronaut's "love" spacesuit won't protect him or her from THAT...!!!
Just look over at the guy next to you in the "love" Burn Ward...
He's got some serious "burn therapy" to go through before he's healed...
And he was wearing "Granite & Titanium" underwear!!!

Note how all of these passages are taken from the Old Testament. After Christ's death, many of the commands regarding animal sacrifice and the like, were rendered null and void as Christ was the ultimate sacrifice. There was simply no need for them. Also, many of the commands regarding cleanliness (such a the pig skin) were put there to preserve the Israelites' health. Now that we have hand santizer and tampons, they are no longer necessary.

Neither. People get burnt on their initial forays into the thing called love (relationships) and they learn immediately to stop playing with fire. They dont even get close to that fire anymore. Lol.

Honestly, I would take the risk of getting burnt.

Life without risk is no life at all.
Fly as high as you can and learn to lick your wounds, smooth down your fur and try, try, again.
