If they never find substantial evidence he cheated, they have to. Once they do, he'll be on the outside looking in along side fellow cheater Pete Rose.

To the guy below me:
Cheating isn't enough of a reason to keep him out? Then why is Pete Rose not in?

It doesn't look good for his chances.

When the feds raided the home of Greg "BALCO" Anderson they grabbed a "mountain of evidence" regarding BB's alleged use of their products. When that information is made public, BB's shot at the hall will probably go up in smoke. At present the BALCO products are undetectable. With advances in medicine and science, that may not be the case in the near future.

The 5-yr waiting rule after retirement will give the HoF ample time to draw their own conclusions. Will BB _automatically_ become eligible after 5 years? If so, I'd be surprised if they leave it that way for much longer. His status may go into limbo UNTIL evidence one way or the other can clear up the mess.

They are going to do everything in their power to resolve the issue before putting BB's name on the ballot. And in that regard they have sole authority. Induction into the Hall is an honor, not a legal right so the final decision is in their hands, not the courts. The Hall doesn't operate upon an "eligible until proven guilty" tenet.

Remember what happened when they decided to ban Pete? They wrote a anti-gambling clause, then they banned him. They could do much the same to all steroid users, including Bonds since he is not in the Hall at this time.

While many suspect him of cheating, nothing has been proven conclusively. Given that lack of evidence, it will be hard for major league baseball to place him on the ineligible list, which is really the only way to officially keep him from being allowed entry.

People tend to forget that MLB doesn't sanction the Hall of Fame, and that it would be up to the BBWAA to decide how deserving he might be. My guess is that, unless MLB be comes out and says that he used steroids, the writers will eventually elect him.

Does he deserve it? I'm not sure - his achievements are amazing, and the speculation about drug use is still just that. But if something is proven and shared with the public, then my attitude would definitely change.

Barry Bonds will be in the Hall of Fame, unless he was caught using Steroids. Unless there is conclusive evidence, then you can't say anything.

His stats speak for themselves and one of the greatest ballplayers of all time.

How many votes did Mark McGuire get? 23.5% and he needed 75%. Why, because everyone knows he got his records by using performance enhancing drugs.

What makes anyone thing Bonds will be different? You cannot keep someone out of the Hall who has a huge record? What about Pete Rose (19 Major League or NL records, MVP, Rookie of the Year, 17 time All-Star)?

In most people's mind, he cheated. Unless he is cleared, he's not going in.

Bonds will have to be voted in by the baseball writers of America, who have been very clear they don't like him and feel he used steroids in his career.

It'll be up to the findings of the grand jury to bring charges against Bonds to give a definitive answer whether he's in or out.

As of tonight, Bonds is not disqualified for consideration under the Hall's ineligibility policy. This could change, though I doubt it will. And if not, then it is completely up to the consensus judgement of the voting writers.

I cannot see that Bonds' amazing career can be denied.

unfortunately,he will be allowed in the hall of fame because before he was taking steroids,he had a very good career,he didn't need to take that stuff

Yes, he has never tested positive for a banned substance and would need to test positive 3 times to get a lifetime ban. A lifetime ban is the only way he would not be allowed in. Of course it is baseball writers that vote for the Hall, so he might not get enough votes to get in. But I would say he's gets in on the first ballot.

If MLB finds proof that Bonds has used preformance inhancing drugs, then no he will not be in the Hall Of Fame.

Right now Bonds is innocent until proven guilty.
