Something cool. My friends and I are taking a road trip out to St. Louis. What's something really cool that I wouldn't find on a tourism site?

I've lived near St. Louis all my life and the one thing that to me is the coolest thing to do in the city is to take the free tour of the Anheuser Busch brewery. It's a very cool tour and you get free beer and snacks at the end too. The Arch is a bit of a waste in my opinion, you wait for hours to go up and then you stay for 5-10 minutes and it's over. Also, the elevators you take to the top are very irritating and if you're claustrophobic at all, you'll hate it. Very uncomfortable to say the least. Looking at it's beauty from the outside is much better than being inside it, trust me on this. It's not that great. I'd go to the brewery and then the St. Louis Zoo in Forest Park, it's also free and a very cool place.

Start off by going to the zoo, Art Museum(closed on Mondays), Science Center, Busch Stadium, Rams game,
Grants Farm, Crown Candy Company, River Cruise on the Mighty Mississippi, Eugene Field House, Blueberry Hill(a place that is in a place called University City and has a St. Louis Walk of Fame, its a food place also.
Fitz's where you can see root beer being made and the food is good! (it is down the street(Delmar) from Blueberry Hill)
Blueberry Hill during the school year you might run into students from Washington University there.
Missouri Historical Society, Central West End,
What time of year are you and your friends coming for the road trip? Blues hockey games?
Soulard Market?
I have been a St. Louis resident for most of my life and there is always something to do here!!!
You might look in a recent copy of St. Louis magazine to get a few more ideas if these suggestions don't appeal to you.
Muny Opera(but the season is over next week and can be hot to sit outside.)

One thing you can do in STL that is rarely mentioned anywhere and is just a bit out of the way depending on where you are coming from is to visit the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. If you are an outdoors person or enjoy nature, it is truly something to see at least once. There are a handful of places you can see this from the MO and IL sides of the Mississippi, but I would recommend the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area on the MO side. It is just 3 miles north of Hwy 270 where it crosses the Mississippi River into IL. There is a visitor center there, a few walking trails and a nice observation point.

The brewery tour is a great suggestion the STL zoo is too and it is free.

Be prepared for the heat.

If you want something different instead of The Arch or the zoo, try visiting the Jazz clubs along the river front. Not only will you hear some of the best Jazz away from the famous Beale and Bourbon Streets, you'll see original cobblestone streets, 150 year old fire stations and eat some of the best food you've ever tasted. This is NOT on any tourism maps. ENJOY.

If the Cards are at home go to a game! Go on a tour of the brewery! Be sure to go to Blue's City Deli for lunch, its great. My husband works in the City and took me there for lunch just a few weeks ago. There is lots to do in Forrest park, the Zoo and the Science Center are free as well as the Art Museum. Go to the Delmar/U. City Loop, there are lots of cool little stores there and quite a few places to eat that are fantastic. Go to the Arch, but don't waste the money or the time going up in it. Its a total waste. The Arch is much more spectacular from the outside. The Casino Queen just had a grand opening of its new facitilies if ya like to gamble. Tons of nightlife too. Plenty of clubs and bars. Have fun! Good luck!

they also have the city museum in downtown cinci and it is awesome. its an old wharehouse that they have made into a very modern, interactive museum that even has a slide inside that travels down several stories. theres a school bus near the roof ont he outside of the building and a plane that you can climb it. did i mention that it is awesome!!! there's also an open air bus that will take you around to all the tourist spots. both the zoo and the science museum there are absolutely free. during this time of year, there are lots of festival on the riverfront/landing. there are awesome bars down there too that can appeal to all music/dance conniseurs. if you like to shop, theres lots of malls and even the galleria mall which i personally find beautiful. for the younger, trendy crowd, i reccommend the university city area. oh, and dont forget to take a tour at anheuser busch; they give free beer samples at the end! and if you like food, boy, do they have lots of good stuff. they have ted drewes frozen custard and it is super yummy. dont eat IMO's pizza its disgusting but the natives love it. their train system there is noce too. its clean and air conditioned unlike some of the larger cities. i could go on and on and on. i love st louis. feel free to contact me if you have questions or want me to continue to ramble. have fun and be safe!

OMG. I can not believe that you are asking this question. There are so many cool things about St. Louis. Yes, most might be found on a tourism site but going to the Arch is a must, there is nothing like it. Go downtown and wander around and see what you find. Go to the riverfront, there are great restuarants and bars and boat rides, little shops. Where in the hell are you from?
