It was Harwell and Paul Carey for most of the decade. You couldn't go wrong with those guys on the radio, or with the combo of George Kell and Al Kaline on the old WDIV broadcasts. I was so excited when our cable company started to carry channel 4!

Ernie Harwell's passing is not only a sad occasion for Tigers fans, but all baseball fans. Harwell was a great baseball announcer, a true original, and an artist at his craft, unlike most of today's announcers with their rehearsed home run calls and catch phrases. Harwell, with his distinctive Southern Drawl, had a great baseball voice and painted a great picture of the game. His voice will never be forgotten, nor will he.

For most of the 1980s it was Paul Carey. However, Mickey Lolich did some color commentary in the late 80s.
