Typecasting. He's always a tough guy or a cop.

Because playing the bad guy is always much more challenging. It's easy for an actor to portray the guy down the street. most actors do that everyday. But to play a role that is hated or feared by someone, that doesn't come natural. You really have to work at your craft to pull it off.

I think it's callled type casting. If an Actor does a good job playing a certain type of character then they will always want him to play a similar character.

Typecasting. When you do something well, people tend to think of you when they need someone to do that. They know what they are getting instead of someone they haven't seen play one.

Though there is a downside where people don't see you as being able to do anything but that.

don't forget The Devil's Advocate; awesome film! The only way he can play such good evil roles is to know the alternate side--which would be "the good side"--well enough to just turn the role around and let it rip.

Your first three answers are the most accurate. It is Type casting. All actors fit certain types and that's the kind of roles that they are offerred/

It's called type-casting.

He looked and played the part well so he was continually approached for that type of role.

That is what he is best at. Sure it's typecasting, but he is great at it.
