Yes he will most likely surpass 800 with ease. My family is a huge sports family and have these discussions/debates at family parties. we had this one in january and so i did some math during our talk about it and we discovered...
for 11 years(12 including this season) alex rodriguez has averaged 40+ hr's a season. (not including his 5 hr rookie season)
If a-rod keeps ave. 40+ hrs a year til he's bonds' age he will have 944 at least. (that only gives him 40 for this year plus 40 for every future year til he is 43)
if he slows down at the end of this year and only ave. 30+ a year til he's Bonds' age he would have 834. (thats 40 for this year plus 30 for all future years til he is 43)
On my father and cousin's prediction of A-rod's progress and hr's/yr... A-rod will either be closing in on 1000 or already past it going into his retiring season. (mind you... for the past 7 years he has averaged, 46 hr's a year. which is totally reasonable for him to do for at least 4-6 more years)
but that's just 3 people's predictions.(by the way my fatherand myself aren't even yankees fans and we think he can do it.)

Not this year.
Rodriguez just got 500; Bonds is over half-again that many ahead. That's a long, long row to hoe, and while Alex is certainly in excellent position to overtake Bonds at some time T in the future, it is nowhere near a sure thing. Check back around 2012.

Isn't Jose Conseco coming out with a new book on A-Rod about the roids. We will be having the same discussion when he reaches 800 won't we.

maybe not 800 but he'll be awfully close.he will eventually beat it.if he hits at least 26 homers each of the next 10 seasons he will pass that record.he might get it in under 10 seasons the way he's hitting home runs.

yes, no doubt about it.
Even if he gets hurt for a year, he will be able to get to 800 +
