yes. I think we get a lot out of them behind the scenes. musharraf can't do much publicly, because he has pakistanis as his constituents. he's about the best we can hope for.

Well, they have nukes and if they were an enemy and let terrorists get their hands on the nukes I suspect we and India would have been attacked with nukes by now. By "they" I mean the rulers; I don't know how most of the people feel about us, but I suspect some of them hate us.
I hope we and India have contingency plans to eliminate their nukes if those who would use them against us gain power in Pakistan; and I hope the job is done with a minimal loss of lives.
I agree Pakistan is a country we need to keep a close eye on. We should encourage democracy there, and everywhere, but be ready to execute a surgical strike to take out the nukes if the wrong folks are elected (although we shouldn't take out the elected government if not absolutely necessary). It's a tough call in every way.

It's not a question of whether or not I trust them, the fact is that there exists an alliance with them. There are lots of people married to people they don't like, but the fact is that they are still married. It is what it is.
Dogs, they also border China, and their longest border is with India. On the South, their border is the Arabian sea, including the port city of Karachi.

Afganistan is landlocked between Iran and Pakistan. They must remain our allies.
