My Schools basketball team starts..Around october/November. And I wanna get better at it.I`m already good. I make MOST of My 3 pointers.I shoot freethrows well I can do layups.I`m a good ball handler(like really really good).
I can do a lot.But the problem is.I need to work on my veritcal jump,My shooting (meaning staying in place and making the shot.)Because I jump over the line (at 3poiinter) but i still make it.I need to learn how to stay in the same place and make the shot(basicly the vertical jump)So what would help me?I`m 5'5,Almost 13 yrs old. I weight about 114 (I've gained a little bit of muscle).I go to the gym a few times. We have weights,Cardio,And etc there..So what things at the gym would help me improve my Jumping/Shooting and etc. Also I can shoot with either hand..I`m right handed but I feel more comfortable with my left..I use a little bit of strength of my right hand when shooting,I can shoot with the right. But it goes like on the side a lot.(i have no idea why)

I`m the only girl at my school who knows more about basketball then any girl there.I Shoot better then everyone,I`m better at defense and offense.
You may think that i`m being a bit conceited..but i`m being seriouse.the coaches tell me that.
BTW I`m gonna be runnng a lot in school,i`ll be playing basketball at lunch and going to the gym 5-6 days a week. when schools starts of course (august 28th)

i can't trained Basketball by using word any way i try to tell some thing u want to jump vertically .

(i) u just type of practices standing on under the basket ring and try to jump to touch the net. But stand straight under ring daily 5 to 10 min jump like that

(ii) ur's main problem i think u try to push the ball on the jump
thats wrong u just use only the fingers to release the ball like NBA player

(iii) practice free throw stand on the free throw area tell to ur friend stand back on u and ur friends hand will tightly hold on ur's hip and than u try to without jump u shoot the ball

i think this help to u. the links r more tech how to play use this link tell to me how going ur practice and matches send me a mail ok. if ur in chennai tell to me i'll train u ok bye

i play HS boys ball and im gonna be a senior so i think i can help you.

to fix your shot you should move in to about 10' jumpers and just practice your jump shot there. before every shot mke sure you are set and you shoot with your arm going straight up (not shot-putting it forward) and concentrate on jumping straight up and landing with your toes in the same spot. honestly if you have the range then practice short and it will become habit.

on the same note, shoot 50 or 100 from the same 10' or 12' spot and be right in front of the hoop. not at an angle. if you can make 50 in a row with a straight up jump then it should be all in good form and you'll be able to play pickup ball and practice in those games.

although you said you dont wanna hear well go practice, thats all you can do. technically it doesnt have to be "practice" but just go play girl! play every day. play for hours at a time, escpecially while its summer. You can only get better by playing and you can ALWAYS get better, no matter how good you are now.

It sounds like you are going to be a PG so I don't think you should worry too much about rebounding. But, you can do squats and such to work on your vertical or wearing leg weights.

You should also try to develop into an aggressive player. In school basketball, the aggressive and oportunist player usually suceeds. The only way I think that works for improving a jump shot is just practicing a ton.

13, 5'"5, 112lbs. Do you want to know what it takes to have success at your age. 1 Excellent skill. I don't want to take away from your overall game, but that will not get you noticed until you enter high school and even there, the most successful players (realistically speaking) are the ones that have that one or two skills perfected. Your cardio conditioning is key because you have to be able to sustain time on the court to get noticed. It is also very important for you to play defense. At some point you will need to realize that the skills that you want to attain are the ones that make you intangible to the team (irreplaceable). Learn who your potential teammates are going to be, see which skills they have and start improving a skill that they may not have... like passing (a great skill, just look at Jason Kidd and Steve Nash). Since you may be the taller player on your team, watch videos of players boxing out and rebounding. Your coach will not be able to resist playing you as much as possible, if you understand how your team plays, and sees you perform the most crucial skills of the game. The more game experience you will have the better you will be. I'm telling you this because everyone works on offensive skills and you will be as god as your talent is. The other skills are skills of hard work and there is nothing more a coach wants than for his players to work hard.

ok your like my height and im 99% from the line and hit 99% of my 3 pointers. when you are shooting the ball make sure that your shooting arm follows though cause thats what guides the shot. the reason your shot goes to the side is cause you drop your arm too fast. also when you shoot you need to plant your feet thats the most important thing. also when you jump you should focus on getting your butt back, kind of like a rocking motion.

as for building leg muscle. how many pounds can you do on the leg press. were about the same height and weight and i can comfortably do 2 reps 200lbs 20 times, so that means that im going to have to increase the weight soon. but start out small with liek 100 and work your way up. as soon as its too easy add more weight.

editt-----> another thing that i do is 30 freethrows and if you miss one you have to start all over again, my cousin whos a coach taught me that and now i can make free throws with out even looking. its all muscle memory.

Just practice. Join a summer program :)

Never try learning by yourself. Always start with a teacher with you. You might pick up the bad habits.
